Whether volunteering their surgical skills on healthcare missions in the United States or in underserved nations and communities around the world, oral and maxillofacial surgeons are always among the first to offer help. The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and the Henry Schein Cares Foundation have collaborated on a new project that honors this spirit of volunteerism and makes it a little easier for OMSs to save the faces and lives of indigent or vulnerable patients worldwide.

Beginning this fall and continuing each year for the next five years, the Henry Schein Cares Foundation will provide four $2,500 cash grants to help offset the expenses of four oral and maxillofacial surgeons planning to volunteer on a US or international healthcare mission.

"Volunteering their surgical expertise is a way of life for most oral and maxillofacial surgeons," notes AAOMS President Dr. William J. Nelson. "The AAOMS – Henry Schein Cares Foundation Global Outreach Program recognizes their important contributions to the health and welfare of patients around the globe. We are proud to work with the Henry Schein Cares Foundation, an organization that shares our commitment to surgically treating the faces, mouths and jaws of patients in need."

"We are pleased to partner with the AAOMS in support of the oral and maxillofacial surgeons who donate their surgical skills to treat the most vulnerable of patients around the world," says Steven W. Kess, President of the Henry Schein Cares Foundation, Inc. "The Henry Schein Cares Foundation is committed to 'helping health happen' by enhancing access to care through a focus on wellness, prevention, and treatment; emergency preparedness and relief; and capacity building."

Applications for the program will be accepted through Tuesday, September 1, 2015. Selected recipients will be notified on Friday, September 17, 2015.
