Fresenius Medical Care expanding its research and production in schweinfurt, germany

Fresenius Medical Care, the world's leading provider of products and services for people with kidney disease, invested in the further expansion of its Schweinfurt. On the factory premises to be built by 2019 a new, 7,000-square-foot technology center for the development and production of dialysis equipment.

Around 250 employees from both areas will work together in the future will project basis under one roof. Thus, the development and production activities are even more closely at the site. For the construction project, a two-digit million amount is estimated.

"The tight integration with the production, we achieve a high degree of flexibility and efficiency," said plant manager Dr. Christoph Sahm. "Short distances and open communication enable optimal collaboration of developing our products to delivery."

"With the new building, we can expand our technology leadership," says Wolfgang Stock, head of development at Fresenius Medical Care in Schweinfurt. "By creating a modern environment that supports innovation and project work best, we increase the attractiveness of the location."

The factory was founded in 1979 is the largest development and production site of Fresenius Medical Care for dialysis machines and other medical equipment. The company currently employs some 1,200 people there.

Dialysis machines are among the most important products for blood purification with chronic kidney disease. During the cleaning process in the dialyzer, which takes "artificial kidney", the dialysis machine pumps blood and monitors the circulation of blood outside the body. It also sets the blood to anticoagulant substances. This treatment is usually done three times a week and takes three to six hours.

To date, more than 600,000 machines were produced in Schweinfurt. More than half of the dialysis machines sold worldwide each year comes from Fresenius Medical Care.
