Brings Together Complete Ecosystem to Ensure the Best in Healthcare IT is Available to Every New Hospital Worldwide

GE Healthcare IT, a division of General Electric Company (NYSE:GE), today announced a comprehensive new partnership program to extend its Digital Day One initiative to include an industry wide ecosystem of leading software, hardware, and services companies.

According to a wide range of forecasts, more than 3000 new hospitals are under construction or planned through 2012, with many more thousand to follow in geographies ranging from the Gulf Region and Baltics to Brazil and Indonesia. If these hospitals follow the traditional approach, they will open their doors without a full healthcare IT solution in place, limiting their efficiency and making it harder to ensure the highest level of patient safety. Through its Digital Day One initiative, GE Healthcare aims to reduce both the perceived and actual barriers to healthcare IT deployment that keep new hospitals from opening their doors with a complete range of digital solutions.

Through its new partnership program, companies that complete the healthcare IT needs of every new hospital will come together around the Digital Day One Starter Kit and services offerings being developed by GE. These companies include industry leaders HP, Lawson, SAP, Oracle, Satyam, and HCL.

“Today we are taking a major step forward in our Digital Day One initiative by extending the work of our Starter Set and Services to our partners,” said Laurent Rotival, Senior Vice President and General Manager of GE Healthcare’s Enterprise Solutions division. “Customers will benefit from leading edge capabilities and knowledge from GE and partners with a complete solution that is fast, inexpensive, and powerful. On many levels this is an unprecedented breakthrough in Healthcare IT.”

The new starter set includes:

  • New GE Healthcare Centricity Enterprise Healthcare IT Software
  • New “Hospital Optimization” software tool from GE Research that helps any size hospital optimize the deployment of beds, staff, equipment, and other aspects of planning to maximize capacity and efficiency
  • New GE Fast Track Services
