The 11th HIMSS AsiaPac17 Conference and Exhibition will return to Singapore with a stellar line-up of healthcare leaders and thought leaders from around the world from 11 September to 14 September.

More than 1,100 qualified healthcare professionals including doctors, nurses, health technology experts and developers, and members of health institutions from over 30 countries are expected to be present at Sands Expo and Convention Centre Singapore.

Themed ‘Team-Based Care: Unifying Patients and Providers’, the event will cast a spotlight on understanding the ever-evolving influence that technology, information and data have in an increasingly growing connected ecosystem of health, and how this is enabling greater collaboration between governments, healthcare practitioners and institutions, and patients. The regional conference will have five main tracks on Population Health Nursing, Data and Technology, Collaborative Care, and Value-Based Care. There will also be a sixth track hosted by Integrated Health Information Systems (IHiS) Singapore, showcasing best practice presentations from Singapore’s healthcare providers.

By bringing together global members of the health ecosystem in one place, HIMSS AsiaPac17 provides an ideal platform to share knowledge and experiences, educate and train health professionals, showcase best practice case studies from around the world, and recognize best in class innovations from both the community and industry. Additionally, the summit also opens up more avenues for strategic partnerships and collaborations by showcasing over 100 of the latest innovations from Asia Pacific in front of more than 1,100 delegates from around the world.

“We are extremely excited to host the 11th HIMSS AsiaPac conference in Singapore this year. With one of the most mature healthcare systems in the region, and with the government’s commitment to improving healthcare through its Healthcare 2020 Masterplan, Singapore is well-positioned to be the getaway to Asia Pacific’s healthcare sector,” said Steve Lieber, President and CEO, HIMSS.

“With its Smart Nation ambitions and vision, it is a great environment for practitioners, thought leaders, and innovators to convene and discuss how we can better use healthcare information technology to solve problems and address challenges. I look forward to hearing this year’s trends, best practice case studies, and to meeting this year’s top innovators from around the region,” added Lieber.

Educating healthcare professionals to address key industry issues and challenges
Recognizing the need to educate and equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and expertise to navigate the challenges and opportunities from technology, HIMSS AsiaPac17 will be hosting three Pre-Conference Workshops on 11 September 2017.

A top priority for every healthcare IT executive is protecting their organization from cybersecurity threats and breaches, regardless of their industry. Together with CHIME International, the Cybersecurity Essentials for Healthcare Executives program will bring together industry experts to share their experiences, tips, and guidance on how to effectively carry out cybersecurity and risks management plans, preparing them against attacks.

For the first time in Asia, and with over 20 leading speakers, the IHE World Summit brings together healthcare IT system users and developers to address interoperability issues that impact clinical care today. Led by Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE), attendees of this pre-conference workshop will be identifying real-world scenarios/use cases, implementing in products and monitoring vendor testing.

In addition, in partnership with the Singapore Nurses Association – Nursing Informatics Chapter, HIMSS Asia Pacific will also be delivering a Smart Nursing Competency Program for the first time in Singapore. Recognizing the importance of nurses’ role at the frontline of care, oftentimes as main caregiver for patients, it is critical that we enable our nurses to deliver the best care by empowering them with the latest skills to improve nursing workflows and digital fluency so that they can provide care in the best interests of their patients.

Addressing critical issues to transform care delivery
Attendees of the conference on 12 September and 13 September can expect highly curated discussions and showcases addressing the realities, and future challenges and opportunities of technology and technology information systems in healthcare.

Over 60 distinguished speakers will be taking part including Bruce Liang, Chief Executive Officer, Integrated Health Information Systems Pte Ltd and Chief Information Officer, Ministry of Health, Singapore; Tan Soh Chin, Chief Nursing Officer, Ministry of Health, Singapore; Chua Chee Yong, Director, Planning Group, Integrated Health Information Systems Pte Ltd and Head, IT Strategy & Planning, Ministry of Health, Singapore; John Daniels, Global Vice President, Healthcare Advisory Services Group, HIMSS Analytics, USA; Michael Draheim, Chief Information Officer, Metro South Health, Australia; Dr. Dominic King, Clinical Lead, Google DeepMind, UK; Dr. Keith Lim, Assistant Dean, Yong Loo Kin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore and Group Chief Value Officer, National University Health System, Singapore; Bob White, Senior Vice President & President, Asia Pacific, Medtronic, Singapore; Farhana Nakhooda, Director, Healthcare & Social Services, IBM Asia Pacific, Singapore; and Dr. Fatima Paruk, Chief Medical Officer, Allscripts Analytics, USA.

“As a first-time speaker for HIMSS Asia Pacific, I am honored to share the National University Health System’s journey towards value-based care. Focusing value as defined as quality achieved per dollar spent, in a team environment with the patient at the centre is critical to managing costs, reducing wastage and improving the standard of care for our citizens,” said Dr. Keith Lim, Assistant Dean, Yong Loo Kin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore and Group Chief Value Officer, National University Health System, Singapore.

Session topic highlights include riveting and innovative discussions around the main tracks, such as Digital Disruption in Healthcare; Progress Towards AI-Enabled Care; 3 ‘Mega’ Shifts in Transforming Health; The New Era of Cyber Threats: The Shift to Self-Learning and Self-Defending Networks; Nurses’ Role in Achieving Robust Cybersecurity in a Hospital Environment; Protect Your Hospital IT, Protect Your Patient; How Healthy is Blockchain Technology?; and Using Analytics to Support Integrated Care to name a few.

There will also be a HIMSS Analytics Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) Criteria Update session on 12 September in the Population Health track from 5pm-5.45pm. With all of Singapore’s public hospitals at Stage 6 – the second highest stage of the EMRAM – and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital at Stage 7, this session will update senior healthcare leaders on the upcoming criteria changes slated to take effect from 2018 and examine how these changes will affect accredited hospitals in Singapore and the region.

“The upcoming EMRAM criteria changes will help organizations focus more deliberately on security and digital imaging. The new requirements are an add-on to the current model, and is a reflection of our aspirations for healthcare organizations around the globe. I look forward to engaging with Singapore’s leaders, many from hospitals at Stage 6 or 7, and helping them progress further with the new criteria,” said John Daniels, Global Vice President, HIMSS Analytics.

Celebrating and showcasing the best innovations from the region
HIMSS Asia Pacific will continue to celebrate and showcase the best and latest healthcare technology innovations, and best information usage from around the world.

On 11 September 2017, invited guests can attend the fifth Asia Pacific HIMSS-Elsevier Digital Healthcare Award 2017. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding achievements and innovations globally in the usage of health information and technology to advance patient care and safety.

Additionally, to top off the first conference day on 12 September 2017, HIMSS Asia Pacific will also be hosting the HIMSS Asia Pacific Awards Dinner 2017. The dinner will recognize individuals and organizations across seven award categories, which are the EMRAM Award; Best Paper Submission Award; Nursing Innovation Showcase Challenge Award; Vendors Choice: Healthcare IT Leader of the Year; Excellence in Start-up Innovations Award; Best Health IT Solutions Award; and the Most Popular Exhibitor Award.

To celebrate and demonstrate first-hand the best in-class implementation and utilization of information technology applications in Singapore, HIMSS Asia Pacific will also be facilitating tours of Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) and Jurong Community Hospital (JCH). These hospitals are integrated to provide seamless acute and step-down care for Singaporeans, having high adoption rates of technology, successful implementation and integration of medical devices, and breakthrough facilities to aid rehabilitation and healing.
