IMEC and its research affiliate, Holst Centre, will showcase wireless bio-sensor systems for monitoring and diagnosing medical conditions during the IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Conference (EMBC) taking place in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on September 2 – 6 (http://www.embc09.org/index.html).
IMEC will present a monitoring system designed to identify sleep disorders such as apnea. The miniaturized wireless system allows patients to wear the device in the comfort of their home environment and eliminates the need for current cumbersome, stressful diagnostic methods that are expensive and performed in a clinical setting.
IMEC will also demonstrate its new wireless ECG platform. Worn as a necklace, the system monitors long-term cardiac performance and allows patients to remain ambulatory and continue their routine daily activities while under observation.
Both systems and more information about IMEC’s other innovative solutions for next-generation healthcare including lab-on-chip and neuroelectronics can be seen at Booth number 25.
IMEC* is a world-leading independent research center in nanoelectronics and nanotechnology. IMEC is headquartered in Leuven, Belgium, and has offices in Belgium, the Netherlands, Taiwan, US, China and Japan. Its staff of more than 1,650 people includes over 550 industrial residents and guest researchers. In 2008, IMEC's revenue (P&L) was 270 million euro.
IMEC's More Moore research targets semiconductor scaling for the 22nm technology node and beyond. With its More than Moore research, IMEC invents technology for nomadic embedded systems, wireless autonomous transducer solutions, biomedical electronics, photovoltaics, organic electronics and GaN power electronics.
IMEC's research bridges the gap between the fundamental research at universities and R&D in the industry. It has unique processing and system know-how, intellectual property portfolio, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and a strong and worldwide network position. This makes IMEC a key partner for shaping the technology of the future.
