Memorial Medical Center of Springfield, Ill., has installed a CARESTREAM DRX-Evolution System in its emergency department and purchased a second DRX-Evolution system for its outpatient imaging center. The hospital’s busy ED sees an average of nearly 180 patients a day and was one of the first to order the popular new DRX-Evolution platform from Carestream Health, Inc. The fully automated DR suite delivers rapid patient throughput with wireless DRX-1 detectors providing the ultimate in positioning flexibility for critically ill or injured patients.

“After evaluating several DR systems, we selected the DRX-Evolution platform because of its exceptional design. The wireless detector in the wall stand or the table can be removed to easily perform cross table and other difficult images, as well as exams on wheelchair or stretcher patients,” said Marjorie Calvetti, the hospital’s Radiology Director. “The bottom line is that this fully-featured system delivers a very streamlined workflow for ED and outpatient imaging environments.

She added that each DRX-Evolution is designed to track multiple detectors and expedite the capture of exam information. “This platform boosts productivity, while also offering ease of use and reduced data entry for our technologists.

The DRX-Evolution is a new modular digital radiography system that can simplify and speed the capture of even the most challenging views. After selecting a patient from the worklist, an auto-positioning feature equips the system to position itself for the examination. The thin, lightweight DRX-1 detector delivers enhanced patient comfort that is especially important for trauma cases. The wireless detector can be removed from the bucky tray for tabletop views and the system’s wall stand can be positioned by the table for cross-table views. Images are communicated over a secure wireless network and appear on the console in seconds.

This system’s modular design can be easily expanded to address changes in radiology workflow and number of exams. It offers a wall stand with six-axis motion and a four-way float elevating table. Healthcare providers can elect to use one, two or three detectors to perform a wide variety of general radiology and trauma exams.

The hospital also installed CARESTREAM DRX-1 Systems to convert four general radiology rooms from CR to DR. “Converting those rooms was quick, easy and affordable, and now our patients and staff have the benefit of immediate image capture and excellent image quality offered by DR technology,” said Calvetti.
