The current demographic trend and the affordability of healthcare services are just two keywords that underscore this point. These challenges are leading to an ever increasing demand for health care services which not only must be of high quality, but affordable as well. Early detection and prevention as well as efficient workflows throughout the entire healthcare system will be decisive in preparing healthcare for the challenges of the future awaiting it worldwide. Intelligent IT solutions are especially in demand for new approaches in integrated diagnostics. They enable to combine many different types of patient data including clinical x-rays, laboratory results, clinical findings, and at any time and point of care even administrative information. They are available to the treating physician no matter where he is. IT has thus become a basic component of our product and service portfolio in order to ensure an optimal workflow throughout the entire care continuum, ranging from prevention to diagnosis, therapy and aftercare. Furthermore, new IT concepts which support the physician in making his diagnosis are much in demand. The key word here is CAD (computer aided detection). It is indispensable for evaluating the data volumes required in today's imaging systems, e.g. over 1300 cross-sectional images for a 13-second CT scan. The next revolution in healthcareinformation technology – personalized, evidence-based medicine, with information technology at the hub – is on the horizon.
