PAXMAN, a leading manufacturer of pioneering scalp cooling technology, has been shortlisted for a prestigious UK design award – the company’s sixth accolade this year.

The latest achievement – a finalist in the DBA Design Effectiveness Awards – is in partnership with their brand agency The Engine Room. It celebrates the company’s global identity, as well as a strategic move to incorporate design across all aspects of the business including product design, R&D, sales and marketing.

Since first collaborating in 2015, the two organisations have made impressive strides together to reposition PAXMAN and its pioneering technology that helps millions of cancer patients across the globe retain their hair during chemotherapy.

Such return has seen PAXMAN’s global turnover increase from £1.8 million in 2015 to nearly double (£3.4 million) in 2018. Awareness of scalp cooling has also grown from around 9% to 25% and its US growth rate has been exceptional – recording a 465% rise between 2017 and 2018.

The DBA Design Effectiveness Awards recognises the difference design makes and the evidence-based impacts that are measured and verified.

Design is now a core element of PAXMAN’s strategy and since the rebrand the company have adopted a design process through everything they do, from brand design to product design, to systems design, to service design, to recruitment.

All elements of the business are now thought about in terms of how they are designed: their products, their communications and service and their behaviour and attitudes.

Kathryn Daniel, head of marketing at PAXMAN added: “From the moment we engaged The Engine Room in 2015, we have never looked back. We are incredibly proud of our authentic, world-class brand – which is now market-leading globally – and thanks to The Engine Room, design is central to everything we do.

“The Engine Room has helped us to clearly differentiate our business and ensure that we drive both awareness and authority in scalp cooling around the world – ultimately improving quality of life and giving patients increased control during their difficult cancer chemotherapy treatment.”

Lesley Gulliver, managing director of The Engine Room, added: “These awards are so important to us because they underline everything we want to achieve – from recognition on an industry level to showing that design is making a strong impact for a client and the bottom line of the business.

“Working with Paxman has been fantastic from the get-go. They’re a brilliant, innovative organisation that the UK should be proud of and we’re thrilled that our collaboration has been highlighted on a national scale.”

This month PAXMAN have also been presented with a Board of Trade Awards (BOFTAs) for their exceptional performance in international trade, which was presented to them by International Trade Secretary Dr Liam Fox MP.

They also had their achievements recognised at the Medilink North of England Healthcare Business Awards 2019, where they were awarded the Export Achievement Award.

The company also scooped two major awards at the prestigious EEF Future Manufacturing Awards in Innovation and Business Growth and Strategy and was awarded overall Manufacturer of the Year award for being the most outstanding company amongst all category winners.
