Hospital & Healthcare Management / Healthcare Pressreleases/ Madrid, Spain – November 3, 2010- Continua Health Alliance member company Ándago today announced the creation of a mobile health solution to be demonstrated at the Continua Fall Summit and Plugfest this week in Seoul, South Korea.

Ándago will demonstrate a complete monitoring solution based on Continua Certification™ Guidelines. This solution will facilitate the interoperability of systems from medical device manufacturers like A&D, platforms for mobile systems, software tools such us Open Health Assistant, and personal health records (PHRs) like Google Health™ through the technology and communications systems developed by Ándago in collaboration with the LibreSoft research group of University Rey Juan Carlos.

LibreSoft, through the Andago’s Chair of the Future Internet, recently completed the HDP/MCAP implementation on the official Linux Bluetooth protocol stack, BlueZ 4.77. This enables Linux-powered mobile devices with a new API for the BlueZ stack as well as providing a new SDK for developers to further this solution. Ándago re-worked their open source Continua Manager developed to utilize these new components and provide a fully integrated solution.

“Mobile personal connected healthcare can improve the health and lives of millions of individuals by providing opportunities to assess themselves wherever they may be. This allows for better management of conditions as well as providing freedom from fixed systems,” said Chuck Parker, executive director, Continua Health Alliance. “Continua member companies like Ándago are creating personal connected health solutions to empower consumers and healthcare professionals to access and share information quickly and easily. We look forward to more companies developing for this platform as we release an internal reference code with the new BlueZ components.”

The Ándago mobile health solution works by collecting patient data from a Continua device such as the A&D medical blood pressure cuff. The data collected is then sent to a Linux mobile phone via Bluetooth, which can then communicate through the mobile network and register the data in a PHR such as Google Health to be analyzed by Open Health Assistant, Ándago’s care management platform.

The Ándago Continua Manager supports some medical device specializations (thermometer, pulsioximeter, weight scale and blood pressure monitor), and it is being shown with some already Continua certified devices like:

–        A&D Medical blood pressure monitor UA-767 PBT-C

–        A&D Medical weight scale UC-321PBT-C

–        Nonin Onyx ® II 9560 pulse oximeter

"To improve, share, prevent and connect summarizes the goals of the new ecosystem led by Ándago. We live in a society characterized by an aging population, with increased life expectancy but who also live with chronic illnesses. It is necessary to look for new models of care which translate into a reduction in healthcare costs," said Ander Altuna, director of R&D, Ándago. "These models are based on prevention through early detection in order to improve the lives of consumers. The potential of mobile technologies to cover all of these aspects is there, but it is necessary to form alliances to create new models to empower consumers, medical device manufacturers, mobile manufacturers and operators as well as providers of care management and personal health record platforms. We are proud of the ecosystem of members and the solution created within Continua."
