Cardinal Health, a global provider of products and services that improve the safety and productivity of health care, launched a new syringe with an innovative design that allows for easier storage in automated medication dispensing machines.

The Monoject® 35 mL syringe, compatible with the Alaris PCA module, features a flexible, two-piece design by Covidien, manufacturer of the Monoject® line of needle devices. The new syringe easily fits within the pockets and drawers of Pyxis® MedStation® automated dispensing machines and was developed in response to customer demand for improved storage capability at the point-of-care. The compact packaging solution of the syringe is intended to fit in Pyxis® MedStation® pocket types, improving storage and access to PCA syringes on the nursing floor.

A pre-filled version of the new Monoject 35 mL syringe will be available exclusively from PharMEDium Services, LLC in custom compounded admixtures for PCA administration. PharMEDium follows a rigorous approach to quality including real-time stability testing for all of its compounded preparations. In addition, pre-filled syringes from PharMEDium offer a unique, patent-pending labeling design with integral warning statement and unique shapes to differentiate between drug families and support the “right drug, right concentration and right route” of the medication administration process. The new pre-filled syringes from PharMEDium provide a time-saving, custom PCA admixture in a compact container to support proper administration while facilitating storage at the point-of-care.
