Siemens Healthcare, a leading provider of innovative imaging IT solutions, will demonstrate the next generation of advanced visualization and agile PACS technologies when it exhibits syngo®.via1 and syngo®.plaza at the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) 2010 Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, Minn., June 3-6 (booth #411). These latest additions to Siemens’ syngo portfolio represent new benchmarks in delivering cutting-edge case preparation, image reading and archiving functionality to the clinical routine.

“As the technology partner of choice for many of the world’s best healthcare organizations, Siemens remains highly committed to finding new, innovative ways to elevate the diagnostic potential of our imaging solutions,” said Dr. Arthur Kaindl, CEO, Image and Knowledge Management, Siemens Healthcare. “SIIM 2010 provides us with an important platform where we can demonstrate our latest imaging informatics tools to our customers and prospects, and gain knowledge that helps us see where we can further expand our broad radiology, cardiology and image-processing portfolio to help them further improve workflow efficiency and to enhance the delivery of patient care.”

At SIIM, attendees will learn how with syngo.via, Siemens’ new imaging software for multimodality reading of clinical cases, the company is placing special focus on reading efficiency through automated case preparation and structured case navigation across multiple specialties, including cardiology, oncology, and neurology. Because syngo.via enables physicians to effortlessly access cutting-edge advanced visualization tools across the clinical spectrum, it stands as an important milestone toward improving workflow efficiency and diagnostic confidence levels. Automated case preparation functionality automatically loads images into the appropriate application and sorts them into the corresponding layout – pre-processed according to the disease-specific requirements – thereby giving physicians more time to focus on image reading and diagnosis.

While syngo.via has been designed to integrate with existing PACS and Radiology Information Systems of all major vendors, Siemens’ innovative client-server technology incentivizes clinicians to use the tool in conjunction with the syngo.plaza PACS solution. When employed together, users are presented with direct, no-click access between the two technologies and a unified user-interface, allowing for a smooth transition between different applications that help speed up the reading workflow.

Booth visitors will also see why as the first PACS from Siemens where 2D, 3D, and 4D reading come together in one place, syngo.plaza integrated with syngo.via is changing the way multimodality images are read today. As part of this solution, syngo.via automatically identifies an obtained image based on the scanner that was used and then, in line with the case complexity, calls up the corresponding 2D, 3D, or 4D applications. syngo.plaza also offers two viewing modes for users: a pre-configured intuitive interface and a customizable option that allows users to define and use the layouts they prefer.

This role-based view helps streamline the reading workflow and eliminate time wasted adjusting to strictly one-size-fits-all PACS technologies. The time-saving SmartSelect2 tool enables users to access their most frequently used functions directly in the diagnostic screen without taking their eyes off the images. Furthermore, syngo.plaza’s innovative system architecture gives clinicians access to the software in their facility or remotely3. Finally, by offering users the ability to leverage their existing hardware components, functionality, and storage configurations, and providing them with scalable storage options, syngo.plaza helps protect customers’ investments.

On Friday, June 4, a new SIIM Vendor Tie-In Applied Learning Session, “Masterminding the Ultimate, Practical 3D Lab,” will feature Andreas Bermann, MD, MBA, Product Manager, syngo.via, Siemens Healthcare, sharing best practices on how radiologists, technologists, and clinicians around the world are leveraging syngo.via to optimize their imaging lab operations.
