InterSystems Corporation, a global leader in software for connected care, today announced that ASCEND HiT has chosen InterSystems HealthShare™ as the application platform to provide interoperability for its ASCEND cardiovascular solution suite.
"We are effectively introducing a new technology paradigm that delivers superior cardiovascular information management capabilities into the electronic medical environment," said Jeffrey Soble, M.D. and President of ASCEND HiT. "There is a need for systems that bridge the gap between the cardiovascular department and the enterprise. The ASCEND solution was built from the ground up using best-of-breed cardiovascular IT components, and utilizes InterSystems HealthShare to leverage the power of existing enterprise HIS/RIS and PACS systems."
Dr. Soble, who heads the Cardiac Critical Care Unit at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, added, "Core components of the ASCEND software suite already have a track record of success with hospitals nationwide. With the launch of these applications on the advanced technology of InterSystems HealthShare, ASCEND HiT will be delivering a breakthrough application on a platform with proven interoperability."
Extensive Research and Testing Leads to Choice of HealthShare
ASCEND HiT chose HealthShare as its application platform after an in-depth evaluation that began with a survey of the capabilities of products offered by nine healthcare technology vendors. Based on that survey, ASCEND HiT deployed and evaluated three platforms. "After hands-on experience with each platform and discussions with teams from each vendor, it was clear that InterSystems HealthShare, which includes the embedded InterSystems Ensemble® integration engine and InterSystems CACHÉ® high-performance database system, provided the best platform for future development," Soble said.
"HealthShare supports all of the message and data exchange protocols we must support now, as well as the HL7/IHE document exchange capabilities we will be leveraging in the near future."
InterSystems' focus on establishing long-term partnerships with application providers also played an important part in the decision to deploy on HealthShare, according to Soble. "InterSystems exhibited strong interest in our goals and invested their time and expertise in our evaluation effort."
"We are committed to working closely with our application partners to support their business and technology objectives, and to enable development of the breakthrough connected care solutions that are so critical to optimal healthcare delivery," said Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems Vice President of Strategic Planning.
