Agilent Companion Diagnostic Expands CE-IVD Mark in Europe to Include Triple-Negative Breast Cancer

industry_reports - Agilent-10372.jpg

Agilent Technologies Inc. announced that its PD-L1 IHC 22C3 pharmDx assay is now labelled for use in TNBC in the European Union. PD-L1 expression is a critical biomarker for response to anti-PD-1 therapies such as KEYTRUDA® (pembrolizumab), an anti-PD-1 therapy manufactured by Merck (known as MSD outside the United States and Canada). The expanded use of PD-L1 IHC 22C3 pharmDx strengthens the ability of pathologists to identify patients who may be eligible for treatment with KEYTRUDA. In Europe, KEYTRUDA, in combination with chemotherapy, is indicated for the treatment of locally recurrent unresectable or metastatic TNBC in adults whose tumors express PD-L1 [Combined Positive Score (CPS) ≥ 10] and who have not received prior chemotherapy for metastatic disease.1

PD-L1 IHC 22C3 pharmDx is the only clinical trial proven PD-L1 assay CE-IVD–marked as an aid in identifying TNBC patients for treatment with KEYTRUDA. PD-L1 IHC 22C3 pharmDx now helps physicians in Europe identify patients for treatment with KEYTRUDA in five cancer types: non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), urothelial carcinoma, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), esophageal cancer and triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC).2

“Anti-PD-1 therapies like KEYTRUDA continue to offer new treatment options for cancer patients,” said Sam Raha, president of Agilent’s Diagnostics and Genomics Group. “This indication expansion of PD-L1 IHC 22C3 pharmDx in TNBC will allow physicians in Europe access to critical information to qualify even more patients who could benefit from these treatments. This further demonstrates Agilent’s role as a leader in developing companion diagnostics for targeted therapies.”

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women, with more than 530,000 new cases diagnosed in Europe in 2020.3 Approximately 15-20% of breast cancer diagnoses are TNBC.4

KEYTRUDA is a humanized monoclonal antibody that enhances the ability of the immune system to detect and fight tumor cells. KEYTRUDA blocks the PD-1 pathway, thereby activating T-lymphocytes that may affect both tumor cells and healthy cells.1 KEYTRUDA and other targeted immunotherapies are changing cancer treatment, and their therapeutic value is being realized across a growing list of cancer types. PD-L1 IHC 22C3 pharmDx was developed by Agilent as a companion diagnostic for KEYTRUDA in partnership with Merck.

NorthShore University HealthSystem Partners with TytoCare to Expand Telehealth Offerings

NorthShore University HealthSystem Partners with TytoCare to Expand Telehealth Offerings

NorthShore University HealthSystem, an integrated healthcare delivery system that includes six hospitals serving patients throughout the Chicago metropolitan area, announced a new partnership with TytoCare, the global health care industry’s first all-in-one modular device and examination platform for AI-powered, on-demand, remote medical exams. The integration of the TytoCare device and platform into NorthShore’s current telehealth appointments enhances the health system’s ability to diagnose and treat patients remotely with in-depth, physical examinations during video visits.

The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of telehealth and spurred the expansion of many health systems current virtual health offerings. Beyond the pandemic, telehealth will remain a vital resource for consumers and health systems, enabling patients to stay on top of their health without the need for in-person visits for a variety of urgent and primary care needs. Through the partnership with TytoCare, NorthShore will expand its virtual care options and ensure that telehealth remains a pillar of patient care moving forward.

TytoCare’s FDA-cleared handheld examination kit enables users to perform comprehensive physical exams of the heart, skin, ears, throat, abdomen, and lungs, and measure heart rate and body temperature, which are key for treating many acute and chronic conditions. This allows health care providers to gain the vital clinical data they require to monitor, diagnose, and treat patients and avoid unnecessary in-person visits.

With TytoCare, NorthShore is providing its patients with virtual pediatric care as well as virtual Immediate Care visits for many commonly treated conditions including ear infections, asthma, cold, and flu. For a one-time fee, NorthShore patients can purchase the TytoCare examination kit to keep at home, and then using NorthShore’s patient portal, NorthShoreConnect and the TytoCare app, connect to their provider for a live visit. During the visit, the health care provider will guide the patient through the examination process using the TytoCare exam kit. Based on examination results, the provider can then make a diagnosis and treatment plan and write a prescription, if needed. The TytoCare device is HSA and FSA eligible and in the coming months, NorthShore will also utilize TytoCare for adult primary and specialty care.

“We’re excited to announce our partnership with NorthShore University HealthSystem to offer their patients a robust virtual care experience,” said Dedi Gilad, CEO and Co-Founder of TytoCare. “TytoCare is providing NorthShore patients with a frictionless, easy-to-use platform, allowing them to connect with their care provider, in real-time, from the comfort and convenience of their homes. We look forward to supporting NorthShore as it continues to expand its digital health offerings.”

In May 2021, NorthShore launched an initial pilot with over 280 NorthShore employees that offered them Immediate Care with the TytoCare device and platform. The pilot exceeded target goals and allowed NorthShore employees to share their feedback to help shape the future of NorthShore patient care and refine the telehealth offering prior to patient rollout.

“NorthShore University HealthSystem is committed to providing an enhanced telehealth experience, enabling our patients to stay on top of their health during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond,” said Sean O’Grady, Chief Operating Officer of NorthShore University HealthSystem. “TytoCare enables us to do just that, offering our patient population quality care without needing to visit a clinic in person. We look forward to expanding our virtual care options, enabling our patients to receive secure, convenient, and quality care at home, at work, or on the go.”

ZAP Surgical to Bring Next-Gen Non-Invasive Brain Tumor Treatment to the American Hospital of Paris Group

ZAP Surgical to Bring Next-Gen Non-Invasive Brain Tumor Treatment to the American Hospital of Paris Group

ZAP Surgical Systems, Inc. announced an agreement to bring its advanced ZAP-X® Gyroscopic Radiosurgery® platform to the Centre de Cancérologie de la Porte de Saint-Cloud (CCPSC) in Boulogne, France. As part of the renown American Hospital of Paris, CCPSC will be the first in France to offer the latest advance in radiosurgical brain tumor treatments. First patient treatments with ZAP-X at CCPSC are estimated to begin the Fall of 2022.

Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is a well-established procedure for the non-invasive treatment of many primary and metastatic brain tumors, as well cranial functional and vascular disorders including trigeminal neuralgia and arteriovenous malformations. Often considered an alternative to costly and invasive surgical procedures, SRS is a non-invasive outpatient procedure that often provides superior outcomes, yet requires no surgical incision, and little to no patient recovery period.

“A significant percentage of cancer patients develop brain metastases during the course of their disease,” said Eric Duret, General Manager of CCSPC. “As this population continues to grow with improving cancer survival, having the most advanced radiosurgery option available to our patients was imperative.”

The ZAP-X system uses unique gyroscopic mobility to direct radiosurgical beams from hundreds of angles to precisely concentrate radiation on the tumor target. This pioneering approach supports the clinical objective of protecting healthy brain tissue and patient cognitive function, and when needed, enable future potential SRS re-treatments without the unnecessary risks associated with other radiation delivery techniques.

ZAP-X is additionally recognized for being the first and only vault-free and cobalt-free dedicated SRS delivery system, thereby eliminating the costs to build expensive shielded radiation treatment rooms, and removing the need to maintain, secure and regularly replace live radioactive isotopes.

Samsung Receives FDA Clearance for AI Algorithms that Detect Lung Nodules in Chest X-ray

NeuroLogica Corp. announced it has received Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for its Auto Lung Nodule Detection (ALND) tool. The offering provides an on-device, computer-assisted detection (CADe) solution for detecting pulmonary nodules from 10 to 30mm in size through an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm.*

It is designed to aid the physician in reviewing PA chest radiographs of adults and is part of S-Station, an operation software installed on Samsung Digital X-ray Imaging systems.

“This FDA clearance is a huge milestone for Samsung and is the result of our tireless work to design diagnostic solutions that empower providers to deliver patients the absolute best care possible,” said David Legg, Vice President of Digital Radiography and Ultrasound at Samsung NeuroLogica. “The fact that it delivers clinically reliable results means clinicians can present it to patients with the utmost confidence, and for that we’re very proud.”

Benefits of ALND include:

Aiding the reader’s diagnosis by indicating the location of suspected lung nodules on chest X-ray images (posteroanterior chest radiographs). The deep-learning technology has been clinically verified in multiple university hospitals and has been approved with a sensitivity of 80% or more. Investigators at these hospitals – Freiburg University Hospital, Freiburg, Germany; Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts; Samsung Medical Center, Seoul, South Korea; and Severance Hospital, Seoul, South Korea – retrospectively identified 600 chest radiographs with lung cancer and 200 normal chest radiographs.
Extensive external clinical validation that has been recognized by the radiological society for having been performed with ‘unprecedented’ diversity of images acquired under different conditions and demographics, while only producing a small number of false positives per image (0.15).
Providing an option (Autorun) to automatically perform nodule detection immediately after chest X-ray imaging, and providing PACS transmission options to suit the hospital environment, both which simplify a user’s workflow.

Clinical evaluation results have demonstrated that all readers’ nodule detection performances using ALND have increased with statistical significance.

As part of our commitment to advancing diagnostic radiology using AI, Samsung is collaborating with Vuno, a leading developer of AI solutions in healthcare. As part of our collaboration, we will expand the uses of the chest CADe solution and improve the diagnostic accuracy and workflow.

Here’s How Choosing the Proper Medical Equipment Can Dramatically Improve Your Life

Here's How Choosing the Proper Medical Equipment Can Dramatically Improve Your Life

Getting sick and getting old are bound to happen. We don’t really have much control over that. Spending time in a hospital for either reason isn’t ideal, and having to spend time away from your home, loved ones, and everyday life can take a toll on your mental health. This is why many people choose to complete their recovery at home. There are also occasions when you may need to rely on medical devices whether it is because of old age, disabilities, or health challenges. These devices can certainly make your life a lot easier and more convenient. If you have recently been diagnosed with a chronic disease that requires monitoring, then you should know that choosing the proper medical equipment can really help you manage your disease and manage your new lifestyle.

Monitor Your Health

One of the many advantages of having the right medical equipment is that it will allow you to monitor your health and keep track of chronic diseases. People with chronic diseases like asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure, or cancer must take the proper treatments and monitor their diseases. Having the proper medical equipment can be a big help for people suffering from chronic diseases instead of having to go to a clinic or a hospital for simple checkups. For instance, if you have diabetes, instead of going to a doctor to monitor the sugar level in your blood, you can opt for a glucometer and do this at home.

Saves Money

Long-term health care can be very expensive, and it can take a huge toll on your finances. Getting the treatment and monitoring that you require at home instead of a hospital can save you a lot of money. Depending on your situation, you may need a medical bed, ventilator, wheelchair, or any monitoring equipment. In addition to equipment, hospitals tend to charge for other things like meals, regular check-ups, nurses, and bedding. Therefore, if your case isn’t serious then you can opt for the right equipment and finish your recovery at home. Besides it being cost-saving, being at home surrounded by your loved ones can really speed up your recovery.

Provides Convenience for the Elderly

Our elderly loved ones require a certain kind of care as they age. They can’t walk as they used to, and their memory and hearing also deteriorate with time. This is why you need to provide a comfortable and safe environment for them. If your elderly parent has a health problem that makes it hard for them to walk, then you should find them a walker, cane, or wheelchair that can make their lives easier. However, you need to ensure you get them the right equipment. Since there are many options to choose from, finding the right equipment can be overwhelming. According to the mobility aid experts at https://mobilitymedicalsupply.com/, before making a purchase, you should first read reviews about the best medical products, and make sure that these reviews are thorough and well-researched. These reviews will help you narrow down your options and find the right equipment for your loved one. Mobility tools will make your elderly loved ones able to move freely and independently which will bring a sense of normality back to their lives. Additionally, when they feel that they can do things themselves without asking for help, this can really elevate their mood and have a positive impact on their mental health.

Provides Safety

Sometimes after spending a long time in a hospital, patients are nervous about going back to their normal lives. Having medical equipment at home will provide them with the patient care they need that can make them feel a lot more comfortable about leaving the hospital. However, you should consult with your doctor first as they will advise you on the kind of equipment that you will need and how to operate them.

In Case of Emergency

There are kinds of medical equipment that can be very beneficial in case of an emergency at home. It isn’t an exaggeration to say that having a first-aid kit, nebulizers, inhalers, and respiratory aids at home can save your life or that of a loved one. For instance, if you are badly injured and there is excessive bleeding, using a first-aid kit will help stop the blood and treat the wounds before things can get any worse.

There is nothing more important than your health and wellbeing. If you are suffering from a chronic disease or disability then you need to have certain medical equipment at home in order to monitor your health and have a better quality of life. That being said, before opting for any medical equipment you need to speak to your doctor first to get their opinion and share with them any concerns you may have.

Why is Supplementation Important for People Who Work a Lot?

Why is Supplementation Important for People Who Work a Lot?

It is difficult to meet all of your nutritional requirements with food alone. The reason for this is simple: not all types of food contain all the essential nutrients, in the required amounts, every day. In fact, even eating a varied diet doesn’t make it likely that an individual will consume everything they need. This is where supplementation comes in handy! Here are the top reasons why supplementation is important, especially if you work a lot.

What Is Supplementation?

Supplementation is the process of adding beneficial substances to one’s diet in order to promote healthy living. There are many different kinds of supplements, including vitamin pills, meal replacement shakes, protein powders, pre-workout mixes, and so on. For example, if you know that you do not consume enough magnesium for your recommended daily allowance (RDA), you may want to take a magnesium supplement, thus reaching your RDA.

Here’s why supplementation is important.

To Increase Focus Levels

People who work a lot often suffer from mental fatigue. In fact, according to studies a significant percentage of workers have reported that they have been affected by mental fatigue in their lifetime. This is due to the fact that stress affects cognitive function. It can result in a reduced memory capacity and a lack of focus.

Mental fatigue is caused by the depletion of neurotransmitters, like dopamine, which is vital for cognitive function. Supplements, nootropic supplements especially, are designed to boost cognitive function. When choosing a nootropic supplement, research is key. There are a lot of blogs dedicated to such reviews, so it shouldn’t be hard. For instance, a popular nootropic is Focus Factor and this Focus Factor guide explains the pros and cons of this supplement. Thus you’ll be able to make an informed decision.

Further, people who work a lot tend to have higher cortisol levels than those who do not work at all. Cortisol is one of the key stress hormones that deplete neurotransmitters when present in excess amounts. Therefore, by reducing your cortisol levels (for example by consuming magnesium or melatonin), you may be able to increase focus and reduce mental fatigue.

To Enhance Physical Performance

The body requires a large number of nutrients, in particular protein and carbohydrate-rich foods, to function properly. In order to meet the required nutrient intake, most people need to consume three normal-sized meals per day.

However, that is not always possible for those who work a lot. For example, there are some jobs where it’s impossible for employees to take a break and eat during their eight-hour shifts (e.g., truck drivers). In this case, supplementation can be a great way to make sure your body gets all the energy it requires every single day.

To Prevent Deficiencies

Essential nutrients are not always available. Therefore, supplementation prevents deficiencies caused by increased requirements due to stress, work overloads, and so forth. Here are the most common deficiencies to beware of:

Protein Deficiency

People who work a lot may lack protein in their diets. This is because many people cannot find the time to eat three normal-sized meals per day. In fact, the protein intake of many working individuals is below the recommended daily allowance (RDA), which is 55.00g for men and 45.00g for women per day, depending on a person’s age and lifestyle. The effects of this deficiency include fatigue, cognitive decline, loss of lean body mass (instead of fat).

Carbohydrate Deficiency

People who work a lot often lack carbohydrates in their diets, which means that their glycogen stores get depleted, and they may become fatigued and suffer from cognitive decline. Carbohydrate deficiency is common among endurance athletes who train for long periods of time every day and eat only one large meal per day. The effects of this deficiency include cramps, lethargy, lack of motivation

Vitamin B Deficiency

People who work a lot or exercise intensely often suffer from vitamin B deficiencies because these vitamins are water-soluble and therefore easily lost through sweating. As a result, fatigue, skin problems, and psychological issues like anxiety, depression may develop.

Calcium Deficiency

People who work a lot or exercise intensely often lack calcium in their diets due to the fact that many people consume large amounts of coffee, which inhibits the absorption of calcium. This is particularly problematic for women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or post-menopausal because they have an increased need for calcium. Calcium deficiency results in muscle cramps, depression, anxiety, and high blood pressure.

To Convey Messages Clearly and Concisely

One of the things people who work a lot often find difficult is to communicate effectively. It may be because they don’t have enough time to prepare their thoughts and sentences, or maybe they’re simply dealing with too much information at once. There’s also another factor: if you’re working in a rush it’s harder to express yourself properly. Hectic environments can lead to miscommunication and misunderstandings.

A great way to avoid such problems is by using supplements that aid decision-making and help individuals process information more accurately. Such supplements can help you improve your decision-making skills and recall important information, which will ultimately help you communicate with your colleagues more clearly.

If you work a lot and don’t have enough time to eat three meals a day, consider taking supplements in order to prevent the onset of nutrient deficiencies. In addition, if you want to focus or be more effective in your communication with other people, try using supplements that will help your brain process information better.

Body Detox: How It Works And How You Can Benefit From it

Body Detox: How It Works And How You Can Benefit From it

Body detox is a process that helps your body by removing toxins, dangerous chemicals, and other harmful substances. Detoxification also helps your body to function better overall. This blog post will help you understand how detoxification works in the human body and what you can do to reap its benefits.

What is a body detox, and how does it work?

Body detox is a process in which your body is cleansed of harmful toxins, chemicals, and other substances. It can also help improve the overall function of your organs by getting rid of waste products that are no longer needed. Detoxification occurs once your body has successfully removed these dangerous materials from its cells through excretion or the act of eliminating them. The trusted detox enthusiasts behind Pass Your Test suggest that you consider taking a body detox if you want to improve your health. However, you have to make sure that your body is prepared to detoxify to avoid any complications.

How can you reap the benefits of body detox?

●     Avoid harmful substances

If you want to benefit from a body detox effectively, you have to avoid taking in harmful substances. These can include nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, sugar, and many other things that are bad for your health. By avoiding these toxins entirely, you will allow your body to do what it does best, which is eliminating them from the cells through excretion or by breaking down their chemical structure into simple compounds. It will also be easier for your body to absorb nutrients from food and convert them into energy if you avoid these harmful substances.

●     Foster a healthy diet

You also have to eat the right kinds of foods before starting the detox process because certain dietary choices can cause complications during this phase. The healthy choices that you have to make include eating a lot of vegetables and fruits, drinking lots of water every day, and avoiding processed foods as much as possible. Keep in mind that processed foods are very rich in chemicals that are bad for your health. Therefore, you should consider eating fresh vegetables and fruits instead to reap the benefits of body detoxification.

●     Minimize stress levels

Stress can also cause complications during the detoxification process, so it is important for you to minimize your stress levels before starting anything related to body detox. By minimizing stress, you will not have to deal with side effects such as headaches or irritability. In addition, doing relaxing activities like meditation can help your body as it goes through the detoxification process, so consider utilizing them as well. You can also consider doing some light exercise to keep yourself healthy and stress-free.

●     Include physical activity in your life

Physical activity is also recommended when starting a body detox because it helps your body to eliminate toxins more easily. You can do anything from simple tasks like walking or running, as long as you exert yourself enough so that your heart rate increases and releases those harmful substances in the form of sweat through pores on your skin. When you sweat, your body releases some of its toxins through this process, so it is important that you also drink lots of water before, during, and after your physical activity.

What are some common benefits of body detox?

There are several benefits that you will see after going through body detox successfully. Some of them include the following:

  • Lose weight – your body will release toxins in the form of fat cells during physical activity, which helps you lose excess pounds without much effort on your part.
  • Improve blood circulation – since waste products are removed from tissues and organs through excretion, this process helps to improve blood flow in the body so that the cells get more nutrients to function better overall.
  • Enhanced digestive health – a healthy diet and regular exercise can help your stomach work properly, which in turn benefits all other organs as well.

Include body detox in your lifestyle for excellent results. The benefits of detoxing your body may seem like a vague and distant idea, but there are many proven reasons to do so. By eating healthy, drinking lots of water, and taking supplements or herbs during the process, you can see how it will help you feel better in only a few days. This blog post has provided some insight into what detoxing is all about, as well as tips for getting started on your project today. However, it can be difficult to navigate such an intensive undertaking by yourself, so it’s also a good idea to have someone there to help guide your journey.

Construction workers are often at risk for workplace injuries. In 2014, there were 14,000 construction site injuries in the US alone. Four of the most common accidents that these workers suffer from include: falls from heights, being struck by falling objects, being caught in between machinery and equipment.

Falls From Heights

Construction workers are at risk of suffering from a fall from height, as many construction sites have no protections. Falls happen because it is easy to lose your balance and slip on the site. In worst-case scenarios, people can suffer serious injuries or even die – that’s why proper safety measures must always be taken to prevent falls. Make sure that your work area is well-lit so you can see all of the obstacles. If there seems to be a lack of light, request more lighting for safety reasons. And if someone else has already fallen from a height on the site, contact the construction zone accident lawyer immediately. Wear a hard hat if working near exposed beams, girders, or other areas where there might be objects falling towards you. Keep tools away from edges so they won’t get in the way when you need to move quickly. Stay aware of obstacles such as nails sticking out of boards or debris lying around – these could make your trip and fall.

Being Struck By Falling Objects

This is one of the most common types of accidents construction workers suffer from. Construction sites are at high risk for having heavy objects fall on top of someone, and this is why it’s so important to take precautions when working around tall buildings or trees. Falling objects can be incredibly dangerous because they may cause severe internal injuries that lead to death if not treated immediately.

It’s important to not only take precautions for your safety but also the people around you as well. If something happens and you don’t warn others about it, they could get hurt. If someone else is standing below a tree that appears like its branches may fall or there’s heavy construction equipment nearby that looks unstable and ready to topple over, let other workers know before continuing with what you were doing. You can even save lives by helping those who are above ground level avoid being struck by falling objects as well, if an object suddenly falls from above, everyone in its path will be at risk of injury so make sure no one is walking under where it might land! aware of any dangers present.

Being Caught In Between Machinery And Equipment

When construction workers are often working on large machines or equipment, they can be caught in between this machinery and other objects. This is a very dangerous situation that could cause serious injury to the worker. If he/she gets stuck inside of it, then another person may have to get them out but many injuries occur while trying to prevent getting trapped too deeply into these spaces within the machine itself. It’s important for people who work with heavy equipment to understand how their bodies will fit around all of its parts before beginning any type of job using it so no one ever becomes injured because they did not check first whether or not there would be enough room for him or her when operating this machinery again properly.

Ergonomic Hazards

Construction workers are at a higher risk for ergonomic hazards because of the nature of their job. Ergonomics is essentially about fitting the tool to the worker rather than forcing a person to fit into a specific work environment or use cumbersome tools that will eventually cause injury over time. Some examples of common construction accidents include back injuries, shoulder and wrist pain from using hand tools, sprains and strains from carrying heavy materials such as wood beams and roof shingles up ladders, falls (especially on wet surfaces), electrical shocks due to faulty wiring in old homes/buildings being renovated, insect bites when working outdoors in warm weather regions like Florida during summer months, and eye injuries from flying debris.

Construction worker accidents are preventable when employers take the necessary steps to provide ergonomically designed tools, safety equipment, proper training on how to use them properly, as well as maintaining a safe working environment free of obstacles that may cause workers an injury while doing their job. Employers need to be held accountable for unsafe work environments because it can have far-reaching consequences not only at home but also in other aspects of people’s lives such as social relationships with friends/family members or even within one’s finances if they cannot continue working due to being injured on the job site.

The best way for construction managers to avoid these kinds of issues with their employees (and keep everyone safe) is to be aware of the common injuries, and make sure that everyone follows safety procedures.
