Nixon Peabody represented Swedish Covenant Health (SCH) in its agreement to join NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore). The partnership, which closed on January 1, 2020, will preserve local, quality health care for Chicago’s North Side communities, supporting long-term growth and sustainability.

SCH will continue to operate its acute care community hospital, and each health system will maintain its ambulatory and physician care networks. SCH patients will gain access to NorthShore’s advanced specialty services and research programs, among others. NorthShore has also made a substantial contribution to the SCH Foundation, which provides health and wellness programs such as combating homelessness, violence prevention, and dental care.

Nixon Peabody advised SCH throughout the partner selection process, negotiated key transaction documents, and assisted in obtaining all regulatory approvals necessary for the transaction to close. Nixon Peabody’s deal team was led by Health Care partner Tom Fahey and included attorney April Schweitzer.
