Good Samaritan Hospital announces it has received certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, reflecting the highest level of competence for treatment of serious stroke events.
“Receiving the Comprehensive Stroke Center status shows Good Samaritan Hospital’s commitment to the health and wellness of our community,” says Andrew B. Leeka, president and CEO of Good Samaritan Hospital. “This certification shows the dedication of our physicians and staff in providing the highest quality of care to our patients.”
The Comprehensive Stroke Center at Good Samaritan Hospital operates in collaboration with the USC/Keck School of Medicine’s Department of Neurosciences. The team of physician faculty members from USC includes neurosurgeons, neurologist, neuro-interventionalist, and neuro-intensivists.
Comprehensive stroke centers have specific abilities to receive and treat the most complex stroke cases. The goal of establishing this new level of certification is to recognize the significant differences in resources, staff and training that are necessary for the treatment of complex stroke cases.
Comprehensive stroke centers are the best-equipped hospitals in a given geographical area that can treat any kind of stroke or stroke complication. In a growing number of states, stroke center certification determines to which facility a patient should be taken by paramedics for the best possible care.
