lodging to patients kin

Docttocare, the online healthcare portal of Doctto Online Healthcare Innovation Pvt. Ltd. has collaborated with OYO Rooms, an online marketplace offering affordable stays, to provide comfortable lodging to the kin of a patient at a reasonable price.

The stay will be arranged in close proximity to the hospital, where the patient will be undergoing treatment so that the family members can be at the service of the patient 24X7. The stay provided by the portal will be customized according to patient need. Not only the lodging, Docttocare will also provide transportation to the family so that they can reach the hospital at any time of the day without any hassle.

Commenting on the launch of the crucial healthcare service, Ms. Sugandha, CEO, and Founder of Doctto Online Healthcare Innovation, said, โ€œThe platform has been launched in view of the several inconveniences that kin of the patients face when their loved one receives treatment in another city. It is a well-known fact that in our country, quality healthcare is restricted to large/metro cities โ€” be it the availability of doctors, presence of state-of-the-art equipment, or high-quality nursing support โ€” thus, the portal will help bring down the overall cost of treatment.โ€

The services of the online platform have been launched in the two mega-cities Bengaluru and Delhi respectively, where many patients along with their families come to receive treatment.

Soon, the services will be expanded in other major cities as well.

Expressing his delight over the development, Mr. Ritesh Agarwal, CEO, OYO Rooms, said, โ€œ We are happy to collaborate with Docttocare as Hospitality Partner, and looking forward to a healthier world”

The portalโ€™s new initiative will help those suffering from chronic illness, including heart and kidney issues, cancer, and other such ailments, as Docttocare has tie-ups with the best medical facilities and most reputed doctors and surgeons

First chemo patients benefit from โ€˜Jacquiโ€™s Millionโ€™ funded scalp cooler

PAXMAN Scalp Cooling Systems

Chemotherapy patients at Leeds Cancer Centre can now benefit from ten state-of-the-art PAXMAN Scalp Cooling Systems all donated by tireless fundraiser Jacqui Drake.

Jacqui has raised ยฃ110,000 to purchase the โ€˜next generationโ€™ scalp cooling machines and innovative caps that help reduce hair loss for patients during chemotherapy. The equipment is not routinely funded by the NHS.

St Jamesโ€™s Hospital have been using PAXMAN scalp cooling since 1998, but now through Jacquiโ€™s generous support, they have been able to ensure patients have access to the latest technology to prevent chemotherapy induced hair loss.

The new machines, which were delivered last week and went straight into use, feature an interactive touchscreen and additional features such as visual warning displays to ensure ease of use for clinical staff.

Other advancements include a new control pump which manages the speed and coolant flow to help improve the efficiency of scalp cooling.

Hair loss is consistently ranked as one of the most common and feared side effects of chemotherapy treatment and often people will refuse it because they donโ€™t want to lose their hair. The damage that chemotherapy causes to the hair follicle can be alleviated by using the scalp cooling treatment, also known as the ‘cold cap’.

Jacqui said: โ€œBeing able to see the impact of my fundraising absolutely makes all the hard work worthwhile. As a patient myself, my ethos is all about positivity and finding the good in a difficult situation.

โ€œIโ€™m determined to keep fundraising for Leeds Cares and reach that million-pound target to continue making improvements at the Leeds Cancer Centre for as many future patients as possible.โ€

Nurse Alyson Beckett said patients like Jacqui were a real inspiration to the team.

She said: โ€œThe NHS does an incredible job, but everyone knows funding is not endless, so we do need that extra bit of support from our charity. Fundraisers who spend their time dedicated to generating money in order to help us out are truly fantastic, especially when, like Jacqui, theyโ€™re already dealing with their own treatment journey.โ€

The PAXMAN Scalp Cooling System is the world-leading hair loss prevention system for chemotherapy patients. It has been used by over 100,000 patients, in 35 countries and is responsible for helping patients to keep their hair and retain normality during chemotherapy. The cap works by lowering scalp temperature before, during and after the administration of chemotherapy.

It is estimated that 8% of people refuse chemotherapy to enable them to keep their hair and PAXMAN are dedicated in changing this statistic by ensuring that everyone has the requisite knowledge, understanding, information and access to the treatment.

Stuart Rowling, Head of UK Sales and Training at PAXMAN, said: โ€œSt Jamesโ€™ Hospital was an early adopter of scalp cooling with the first system being put to use on their wards in 1998. We are completely delighted that through Jacquiโ€™s support we are able to introduce the next generation of PAXMAN systems to a hospital that has shown such long-term support for scalp cooling. Thanks to Jacquiโ€™s astounding hard work, St Jamesโ€™ hospital can ensure patients have access to the latest technology to help prevent chemotherapy induced hair loss.โ€

The โ€˜Jacquiโ€™s Millionโ€™ appeal is raising money specifically to support the Leeds Cancer Centre through Leeds Cares, the official charity partner of Leeds Teaching Hospitals. After being diagnosed with secondary cancer in 2009, Jacqui has been receiving treatment in Leeds and her cancer is now classified as malignant stage four.

AI-based AI-Rad Companion Chest CT software from Siemens Healthineers registered for use in Europe

AI based Chest comparision

AI-Rad Companion Chest CT, an intelligent software assistant for radiology, was recently awarded the CE mark, which means Siemens Healthineers can start marketing this artificial intelligence (AI)-based software as a medical product in Europe effective immediately. AI-Rad Companion Chest CT helps radiologists interpret CT (Computed Tomography) images of the thorax faster and more precisely, and to document the findings in less time with the help of automatic measurements.

AI-Rad Companion Chest CT is the first AI-based application on the new AI-Rad Companion platform, and is vendor-neutral, which means the software can evaluate image data from many CT system manufacturers. Siemens Healthineers plans to expand this platform so that more and more intelligent algorithms will be available for additional organs and modalities. This will enable the company to consistently expand its portfolio of effective solutions for AI-based clinical decision support.

โ€œWe introduced the first AI-based assistant in our AI-Rad Companion product line, AI-Rad Companion Chest CT, at RSNA 2018 in November last year,โ€ says Dr. Razvan Ionasec, director in charge of AI-Rad Companion at Siemens Healthineers. โ€œWe are pleased to be able to offer our customers in Europe this first AI-based assistant for use in clinical practice effective immediately. I can see huge potential in this new product line for growth in key areas of medicine and to provide support for physicians in their clinical decision-making processes.โ€

โ€œResults drawn up by radiologists can vary by some 10-20 percent, depending on the investigator,โ€ comments Dr. Bram Stieltjes, Head, Research Coordination Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, University Hospital Basel. โ€œAlgorithm-based diagnostics completely obviate this variability, generating constant results. That alone is a huge advantage of AI platforms like AI-Rad Companion.โ€

Using CT images of the thorax (chest), the software can differentiate between the various structures of the chest, highlight them individually, and mark and measure potential abnormalities automatically. This applies equally to organs such as the heart and lungs, aorta, and vertebral bodies. The software automatically turns the findings into a quantitative report, which can be called up via the image viewing system used by the radiologist in the clinical routine. In certain circumstances, the intelligent assistant also alerts physicians to potential abnormalities that would otherwise have been missed because they were not the focus of the original examination, e.g. chance discoveries of pathological dilations of the aorta (aneurysms).

โ€œExamination using a chest CT is a procedure often used in everyday clinical practice,โ€ says Andrรฉ Hartung, head of Computed Tomography at Siemens Healthineers. โ€œFor radiologists, this means more examinations in a limited amount of time and usually for low reimbursement rates. AI-Rad Companion Chest CT is a tool that can actually simultaneously increase productivity and quality in diagnostic radiology. This is a big step on our way to becoming a leader in clinical decision makingโ€.

AI-Rad Companion Chest CT is a cloud-based solution and uses certified, secure teamplay infrastructure that complies with the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in the U.S., and with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the EU. The software conforms to Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standards. The images and all supporting information can be made automatically available in the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) in line with the radiologistโ€™s individual requirements.

Jump Technologies, X3 Consulting Group announce partnership to streamline supply chain process and mitigate risk for hospitals

supply chain process and mitigate risk for hospitals

A new strategic alliance between Jump Technologies and X3 Consulting Group (X3) has the potential to capture missed hospital revenues from OR (operating rooms) and procedure suites, improve patient care, and make for happy nurses. Through a unique arrangement Jump Technologies, a leading hospital supply chain solutions provider, will work with X3, experts in perioperative and supply chain optimization, to offer hospitals a shared-risk model when implementing the JumpStock hospital supply chain solution and its related modules.

โ€œNursing and supply chain staff are essential to the success of any hospital. Through our alliance with X3, we address key pain points for hospitals and health systems across the country,โ€ said John Freund, CEO of Jump Technologies. โ€œBy automating the tracking of everything from general med-surg supplies to implants, and delivering reports that bring visibility to supply utilization by all physicians and all areas of a hospital, we make it possible for nurses to reduce clinical admin time by up to 50 percent, spend more time with patients, while improving charge capture, and increasing revenue for the organization.โ€

Through this arrangement, consultants from X3 will work with Jump Technologies to assess the needs of individual hospitals and healthcare systems to optimize the implementation of JumpStock modules in their facilities. JumpStock integrates with any ERP, EMR or scheduling system and includes the following modules:

  • JumpStock– Easy to use inventory management system that tracks supplies from the loading dock to the patient.
  • JumpStock Procedural Module โ€“ Simplified tracking and analysis of all physician preference items used in surgical procedures.
  • Simplify OR โ€“ Automates documentation of anything related to implants in the OR.

โ€œThis arrangement is a win-win for hospitals. With X3โ€™s experience and seamless process, coupled with the inventory management solutions from Jump Technologies, hospitals will be able to identify and implement a gamechanger without disrupting staff workflows or the patient experienceโ€ said Todd Fuhr, managing partner and founder, X3 Consulting Group. โ€œWe supplement hospital staff, design and implement a tailored approach, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the solution. Our model is to assess, design, implement and sustain, which is how we maximize cost reductions and savings efforts.โ€

According to Fuhr, the length of the engagement will vary based on the assessment by X3, which will assume the cost of the JumpStock solution for the duration of their engagement with the hospital, which will minimize the financial risk of implementing new technology solutions.

Happy nurses, better outcomes
According to the two companies, the strategic assessment and implementation of JumpStock will help healthcare systems improve nurse satisfaction and increase revenue by:

  • Minimizing lost charge capture due to inconsistent tracking of supplies used in procedure suites and ORs. Accurately and consistently tracking supply utilization by physician and procedure.
  • Automating documentation of implantable devices.
  • Improving workflows and redirecting labor costs.
  • Increasing clinician satisfaction.
  • improving monitoring of case-cost controls and maximizing reimbursement opportunities.

And when nurses are happy and working more efficiently, care delivery is enhanced. More specifically, the alliance will:

  • Increase interactions between patients and clinicians.
  • Reduce the risk of infections and readmissions because nurses are spending more time on follow-up with patients.
  • Increase billing accuracy and clarity for patients.
  • Create potential cost savings for patients by reducing the risk of complications and enabling a smooth recovery.
  • Improve the overall patient experience and satisfaction.

Jump Technologies announces exclusive marketing agreement with Simplify OR

Jump Technologies marketing agreement with Simplify OR

Jump Technologies, a leading hospital supply chain solutions provider, announced that it has signed an exclusive marketing agreement to sell Simplify OR along with its JumpStock inventory management software platform. The arrangement will give hospitals and health systems access to one-click-and-done clinical and supply chain documentation for implantable devices, which will reduce the amount of time nurses spend on paperwork and open up new revenue for hospitals.

Headquartered in Eagan, MN, Jump Technologies delivers a cloud-based hospital supply chain software solution called JumpStock that integrates with any enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and/or electronic medical record (EMR) system to help hospitals increase revenues through improved charge capture in procedural areas, and save money by providing actionable analytics that drive a new level of standardization in clinical and operational best practices. The new agreement gives Jump Technologies exclusive rights to market and sell the SmartApp by Simplify OR, an application that automates the clinical and supply chain documentation of implantable devices โ€“ such as total joint replacements โ€“ in operating rooms (OR) and procedure suites, two areas that are primary cost drivers for hospitals.

Nurses today spend as much as 50 percent of their time documenting cases, chasing down purchase orders for trunk stock, working with purchasing and contracting to ensure patient case information is flowing properly, and more. This work takes away from their core mission of patient care. The impact on patient safety comes in the form of increased infection rates, longer hospital stays, and increased readmissions, all of which can decrease hospital reimbursements and negatively impact the bottom line. Combine that with the fact that as much as 30 percent of charge capture in the OR suite is missed, which decreases hospital revenue, and it becomes clear that nursing labor allocation has become a significant problem.

โ€œLife-changing procedures, such as joint replacements, generate a lot of paperwork for nurses and other clinicians,โ€ said John Freund, CEO of Jump Technologies. โ€œBy offering Simplify OR along side the Jump Stock solution, nurses can document the use of implants with one click and ensure that surgical charges are captured accurately and consistently. This will increase revenue for hospitals and keep nurses happy by allowing them to focus on patient care.โ€

According to Jim Ferch, co-founder of Simplify OR, the application was developed based on feedback from nurses who were tired of the manual process related to billing for implantable devices (which often come to hospitals through trunk stock or consignment stock) and who were witness to the lost revenue and inaccuracy of this process.

โ€œNurses lose three hours of every 12-hour shift to paperwork, hunting for supplies, and other tasks that do not directly influence patient care,โ€ said Ferch. โ€œThe Smart App addresses this problem by automating all implant documentation with one click. The app is compliant with hospital contracting and industry regulations related to unique device identification and GS1 standards, and it delivers data that helps clinicians meet changing hospital performance metrics.โ€

How JumpStock works with Simplify OR
JumpStock integrates seamlessly with any hospital ERP/EMR system, which means it supports existing clinical workflows. The platform delivers reports that help nurses and supply chain professionals make informed decisions about supply utilization throughout their facilities โ€“ including high-cost areas like operating and procedure rooms.

Simplify OR will be offered along with the JumpStock solution, allowing nurses or manufacturers reps to simply scan or key products that these representatives bring into the OR suite into the SmartApp. Once approved by the circulating nurse, immediately after an implant case, the SmartApp updates the hospital charge master, item master, patient billing and patient charting, and also generates a purchase order in the hospitalโ€™s ERP. This process makes it possible for vendors to receive payment for products and for hospitals to accurately apply charges to patient cases for reimbursement and payment by health insurance.

By offering Simplify OR in partnership with the JumpStock platform, Jump Technologies will help hospitals:
? Accurately document all implants used,
? Maintain a current charge master and item master,
? Maintain consistency between supply chain and clinical data,
? Ensure alignment between pricing on the hospital item master and vendor contracts,
? More accurately capture all patient charges, and
? Align hospital workflows with EHRor EMR goals.

Imminence of New Gonorrhea Therapeutic Drugs is Evident as the Bacteria Grow Super Resistant to Antibiotics

According to a new study, the gonorrhea therapeutics market will reach US$ 970 Mn in 2019, and estimated to register a 4% Y-o-Y over 2018. The gonorrhea therapeutics industry will remain influenced by increased attention on new developments in novel therapeutic compounds or antimicrobials for improving the success potential of future treatment.

There has been a significant rise in the prevalence of gonorrhea that is resistant to components of dual antibiotic therapy โ€“ ceftriaxone and azithromycin, which is the only recommended treatment for gonorrhea. In addition, resistance to several other antibiotics apart from dual antibiotic therapy resulted in โ€˜super gonorrheaโ€™, which has become a buzzword in the gonorrhea therapeutics market. With a slew of promising new antibiotics on the horizon, alongside surveillance, education and preventative measures to stymie prevalence of super-resistant gonorrhea, prospects seem bullish for the gonorrhea therapeutics market.

โ€œAs gonorrhea, a sexually transmitted bacterium is increasingly learning to withstand the currently available antibiotics, the infection is making progress in its relentless march towards untreatable status. Growing partnerships between companies and organizations, to develop novel drugs that combat the drug-resistant gonorrhea, are highly likely to complement gains in the market,โ€ says report.

Dual Therapy Remains the Treatment of Choice

The market of gonorrhea therapeutics is likely to grow in parallel with the potentially effective drugs that are currently in pipeline. Growing number of clinical trials and rising investments in healthcare industry will continue to pave lucrative avenues of growth for the gonorrhea therapeutics market. The study opines that dual therapy will remain the treatment of choice for gonorrhea, accounting for ~90% market shares. This falls in line with the current recommended regimen for gonorrhea treatment that includes a combination of two antibiotics, azithromycin, which is given orally, and ceftriaxone, an intra-muscular drug.

According to the study, azithromycin will continue to account for greater gains in the gonorrhea treatment market, closely trailed by the third-generation cephalosporin that are increasing gaining traction. Azithromycin sales for the treatment of gonorrhea are expected to hold ~50% market shares. Sales of third-generation cephalosporin are expected to grow at a rate similar to that of azithromycin in the foreseeable future. As some countries turn to increasing the doses of the recommended gonorrhea drugs in an attempt to overcome the bacteriaโ€™s resistance, the demand for macrolide antibiotics and third-generation cephalosporin is likely to grow steadily in coming years.

According to the study, lucrativeness of developed markets โ€“ North America and Europe โ€“ for gonorrhea therapeutics will endure, primarily underpinned by growing prevalence of STDs and rapidly advancing healthcare infrastructure in these regions. In the US alone, ~1 Mn cases of gonorrhea are reported annually, according to recent studies. Favorable reimbursement policies and government funding to numerous health organizations for the development of drug-resistant gonorrhea treatment will remain the key growth influencers of the market in these regions.

The study further opines that companies in gonorrhea therapeutics market are making bulk investments in building a robust pipeline, while focusing on drug approvals in different regions. However, the overall reluctance of gonorrhea drug manufacturing in line with long regulatory processes and complications associated with eventual antibiotic resistance of drugs could team up against the steady growth of gonorrhea therapeutics market.

Medtronic Partners with Viz.ai to Accelerate Adoption of New Artificial Intelligence Software in U.S. Stroke Centers

Medtronic AI in Stroke Centers

Medtronic plc , a global leader in medical technology, and Viz.ai, the emerging leader in applied artificial intelligence (AI) in stroke care, have partnered to accelerate the adoption of Viz.aiโ€™s new technology, which helps synchronize stroke care and decrease time to treatment, potentially improving outcomes for patients.

Viz.aiโ€™s technology uses artificial intelligence to identify suspected large vessel occlusion (LVO) strokes and automatically notify specialists. The Viz.ai software connects to hospital computed tomography (CT) scanners and alerts stroke specialists within minutes that a suspected LVO stroke has been identified, sending the radiological images directly to their smart phones where they can be viewed.Viz.ai enables a physician to provide the patient with the treatment they need as quickly as possible.

โ€œMedtronic is an innovative company focused on therapies that extend life and restore health,โ€ said Dr. Chris Mansi, neurosurgeon, co-founder and CEO of Viz.ai. โ€œAs the largest medical device company in the world, Medtronic is an ideal partner to help physicians access Viz.aiโ€™s cutting-edge technology to ensure as many patients get the care they need as quickly as possible.โ€

Stroke is a serious and time-sensitive medical condition that requires emergency care and can cause lasting brain damage, long-term disability and death. A stroke occurs if the flow of oxygen-rich blood to a portion of the brain is blocked. When this happens 2 million brain cells die every minute. It is the number-one cause of disability in the U.S. and the leading cause of death outside of the U.S.

โ€œViz.ai allows clinicians to receive an alert for suspected Large Vessel Occlusions and the corresponding visual dataโ€ said Dr. Elad Levy, chairman in the Department of Neurosurgery with the University at Buffalo’s Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and medical director of Neuroendovascular Services at Gates Vascular Institute. โ€œThe combination of AI powered alerts, mobile image viewing, and HIPAA compliant communication facilitates synchronization of stroke care with great potential to impactfully reduce door-to-needle time and help an increased number of patients.โ€

Every two minutes someone in the U.S. has an LVO, but only an estimated 15 percent receive a potentially lifesaving mechanical thrombectomy, a minimally-invasive procedure that removes blood clots. A Viz.ai study in two centers showed that in 95.5 percent of true positive cases, its technology alerted the stroke specialist earlier than the standard of care, saving an average of 52 minutes.

โ€œViz.ai is fast emerging as the leader in artificial intelligence in stroke care. We are excited about this partnership because Viz.aiโ€™s technology has the potential to significantly reduce the time it takes for patients suspected of LVO stroke to receive the care they need,โ€ said Stacey Pugh, vice president and general manager of Medtronicโ€™s Neurovascularbusiness, which is part of the Restorative Therapies Group at Medtronic. โ€œViz.aiโ€™s software coupled with our network is going to increase access to needed therapies. It greatly complements our existing portfolio.โ€

Medtronic currently offers the Solitaireโ„ข Platinum revascularization device, a unique stent that retrieves clots from occluded blood vessels in the brain for patients experiencing acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to an LVO.

Through this agreement, Medtronic will distribute Viz.aiโ€™s existing LVO detection and triage software services, which are currently permitted for marketing in the U.S. It was the first clinical decision support software designed to analyze CT results that may notify providers of a potential stroke in their patients cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The technology is available in over 200 hospitals, with the goal of making Viz.ai available to every stroke center in the country.

Dr. Levy has no financial ties, nor has he received any compensation from Viz.ai.

About Viz.ai, Inc.
Viz.ai is the leader in applied artificial intelligence in healthcare. Viz.aiโ€™s mission is to fundamentally improve how healthcare is delivered in the world, through intelligent software that promises to reduce time to treatment and improve access to care. 18th Hospital Management Asia to be held in Hanoi on 11-12 September

Hospital Management Asia 2019

Hospital Management Asia 2019, the annual event for Asian healthcare leaders, will be held September 11-12, 2019, at the National Convention Centre of Vietnam.

Hospital management and healthcare professionals from around the Asia Pacific region will gather at HMA to exchange ideas and insights on evolving business models, innovative technologies and improvements on the management of healthcare systems.

Attendees can expect to tackle topics such as the latest technologies for healthcare, cost reduction and patient safety to increase efficiency and improve patient outcomes. The conference will also discuss Healthcare 4.0, investments in hospitals and healthcare across Asia, and winning the war for healthcare talent, among others.

This year, the conference will feature five main streams, including a new one for C-level leaders which will discuss financial sustainability through investments, the impact of public policy for hospital services and how to address the challenges in the implementation of value-based care. Other streams include Safety, Quality & Accreditation; Patient Care & Engagement; Talent Management; and Healthcare 4.0.

Running alongside the conference is the Asian Hospital Management Awards that recognise and honour hospitals in the Asia Pacific that implement best practices. All projects submitted by Vietnamese hospitals will also be eligible for the ‘Most Improved Local Hospital’ category — a special award for entries by Vietnamese hospitals only.

Madam Prof. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, Minister of Health for Vietnam, said, “The government has developed an action plan to improve healthcare in Vietnam on all fronts. One of the best opportunities to further our mission towards reform lies at Hospital Management Asia, with several stellar case studies from across the region.”

“Healthcare is accelerating exponentially in Asia and there is no better place to keep up with the latest in the industry to meet the demands of their respective communities. The Ministry is pleased to host the event for the second time, and I am excited to be part of the movement to bring hospitals, investors and solution providers together to help our hospitals provide better service and the best patient outcomes possible.”

Madam Prof. Tien will also be leading the Ministers of Health Panel, alongside YB Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, Minister of Health for Malaysia, and Dr. Kidong Park, Country Representative – Vietnam, World Health Organization.

Siemens Healthineers is proud to be associated with Hospital Management Asia as a title sponsor for the third consecutive year. This year at HMA, we are focusing on how we enable healthcare providers to deliver high-value care at low cost by means of expanding precision medicine, transforming care delivery, and improving patient experience, all enabled by digitalizing healthcare,” said Elisabeth Staudinger, President of Siemens Healthineers Asia Pacific.

“We look forward to this opportunity of interacting with the C-level community while understanding their demands and concerns in Southeast Asia.”
