Healthix, the largest public health information exchange (HIE) in the U.S., announced the launch of a program built upon InterSystems HealthShare® that nearly doubles the number of alerts that clinicians can receive about the care status of their patients.
Over the past year, Healthix has generated over 7.3 million alerts for more than 180 organizations and 16 million-plus patients in its system. However, nearly 6.5 million alerts could not be sent to providers and care managers without patient consent, potentially delaying the care management and intervention process for patients.
To expand upon its capability to support coordinated care, Healthix has devised a new notification system, known as Essential Alerts, that informs clinicians about changes to their patients’ care status in a way that conforms to New York State’s strict patient consent policies.
For example, a physician involved in a treatment relationship with a patient could be notified that his or her patient has been admitted to the Emergency Department of nearly any hospital in the New York City region with a complaint of chest pain, even if the patient has not given explicit permission for the information to be shared. The information is limited to the patient’s name, initial complaint, hospital, date, and time.
Healthix will demonstrate this unique new capability at the HIMSS18 conference in Las Vegas, NV, on Tuesday, March 6th at 11 a.m. PT in the InterSystems booth (#4444).
“Healthix is committed to improving care through the flow of patient information across the care continuum, which is made possible with technologies like InterSystems HealthShare,” said Tom Check, president and CEO of Healthix. “With Healthix Essential Alerts, we’re ensuring that our providers and care managers have access to and can act on clinical events in real time, ultimately enabling more efficient care coordination for millions of patients in New York City and Long Island.”
“Since embarking on our partnership with Healthix, we’ve focused on achieving one primary goal: to enable the exchange of comprehensive patient data across the care continuum to allow more informed, timely decision making,” said Don Woodlock, vice president of InterSystems HealthShare. “The launch of Healthix Essential Alerts showcases the power of InterSystems HealthShare to enable better clinical data sharing for more efficient and streamlined care delivery in a way that is both robust and sensitive to patient needs and regulations.”
