Farrer Park Hospital, a private tertiary care center in Singapore, has started providing its latest AI-assisted colorectal screening solution to improve colon polyp and cancer identification, categorization, screening, and monitoring.The hospital employs an artificial intelligence screening tool that notifies doctors in real time of potential lesions and polyps.
Between March and April, nearly 360 colonoscopies were performed as part of the trial. In May, it was formally launched as a new hospital service.
In Singapore, colorectal cancer is the primary cause of cancer death, affecting over 1,800 individuals each year. According to a news release, FPH launched its latest AI screening solution to enable more accurate diagnosis of polyps. The technique, according to a consultant gastroenterologist at FPH, Dr. Desmond Wai, helps reduce misleading results and eliminates the danger of missing polyps by clearly displaying them. He explained that this enhances the precision of the scopes that are conducted, which are critical in a patient’s health odyssey.
According to a senior consultant and colorectal surgeon, Dr. Chew Min Hoe, at FPH, AI is particularly beneficial for finding flat and sessile polyps, which are frequently missed.
FPH has been using AI to improve its health care services in recent years. It announced using an AI-enabled MRI testing method for dementia to improve dementia diagnosis in September of last year. The startup announced a partnership with Medtronic in November to launch an AI-assisted early screening solution for cardiac disorders. The programme employs Medtronic digital auscultation equipment with ECG and AI, which detects missing heart sounds that would otherwise go undiscovered.
