On May 12, 2008, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the city of Wenchuan, in southwestern China's Sichuan province, destroying homes, offices and factories and killing tens of thousands of people. Immediately following the earthquake, Mindray management donated urgently needed medical equipment and called on its employees to join together in raising money to donate to the relief efforts.
'We are deeply saddened by this tragedy,'' said Xu Hang, Mindray's chairman and co-chief executive officer. ''Our heartfelt sympathy and condolences extend to the thousands of people affected by this catastrophe. In light of this disaster, I'm encouraged by the efforts of our employees and the resolve shown by the Chinese people to unite together in this great time of need. May the thousands affected by this earthquake cope, recover and rebuild quickly. Our hopes and wishes are with you.
