The first edition of Africa Healthcare Extension Summit concluded on 26 – 27 June 2018 at Villa Rosa Kempinski Nairobi, Kenya. The event gathered top hospital owners, medical directors, CEO, COO, procurement heads and distributors to provide a forum of exchange on the current technologies and healthcare sector updates in the Africa region.

Organised by Verve Management, the two-day summit was officially opened by Salim Hasham, Executive Chairman of Mediheal Group of Hospitals, East Africa.“The most interesting about the summit was the range and diversity of people that came here in a way it is always useful when you have service providers and equipment manufacturers and other people from East Africa region” Salim Hasham said.

The speakers and panelists included: Dr. Amit Thakker, Chairman of Africa Healthcare Federation, Dr. Anthony Gikonyo, Medical Director, The Karen Hospital, Dr. Dominic Mwenja, CEO of Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Edna C TallamKimaiyo, CEO – Nursing Council of Kenya, Faith Muigai, Board Director of Kenya Healthcare Federation, Dr. Ian Clarke, Chairman of International Medical Group, IraneusOgu, Director of Africa Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain for Healthcare initiative in Nigeria, Kennedy Okong’O, Manager, Medical Credit Fund East Africa – Pharmaccess Group, Prof. Morgan Chetty, CEO of KwaZulu Natal Doctors Healthcare Coalition Ltd, Nikhil Pereira Kamath, CEO of Africa Healthcare Network,Dr. Peter Kamunyo, CEO of MedSource Group, Prof. Revathi Gunturu, Associate Professor of Department of Pathology, Aga Khan University Hospital, Salim Hasham, Executive Chairman of Mediheal Group of Hospitals, East Africa,Dr. Simon MucaraKigondu, Secretary General of Kenya Medical Association, Dr. Timothy Olweny, Director and CEO of Evans Sunrise Medical Centre & Secretary General, Kenya Association of Private Hospitals and Dr. Uma Nambiar, Special Advisor to Ministry of Health, Djibouti.

Universal Healthcare Coverage, Health Systems Strengthening, Innovations, Health Sector Policies, Artificial Intelligence andKenya’s Socio-Economic Agenda for Healthcare were presented and discussed during the two-day event.“It’s the beginning, we say that stake-hold engagement is very important in improving health in Africa.

This is one of the engagement forms that bring both private sector and the other stakeholders from outside Africa together. So, I believe that stake-hold engagement is important and Africa Healthcare Extension Summit is one such forum that allows us to improve and share knowledge” Dr. Amit Thakker said.
