Excelerate, a joint venture between the Cleveland Clinic and VHA Inc., today announced it has added King’s Daughters Medical Center (KDMC) in Ashland, Kentucky to its industry-leading, provider-led sourcing model. Excelerate’s enhanced contracts for heart and vascular products within the physician preference portfolio will be the initial offering utilized by KDMC.

KDMC is a locally controlled, not-for-profit, 465-bed regional referral center, covering a 150-mile radius that includes southern Ohio, eastern Kentucky and western West Virginia. KDMC recently has formed an affiliation with Cleveland Clinic to provide access to cutting-edge protocols, research and outcomes analysis for its heart program. The affiliation will strengthen the quality of heart care available to the communities served by KDMC.

Excelerate provides enhanced value to members by offering a unique, physician-driven and evidence-based approach to sourcing for physician preference items and clinical preference items. These portfolios immediately reduce variation, deliver supply savings and facilitate physician alignment to reduce healthcare costs while delivering high-quality outcomes for patients.

“We are delighted KDMC has chosen Excelerate as its sourcing model for physician preference agreements,” said Bill Peacock, chief of operations for the Cleveland Clinic. “Excelerate’s physician-to-physician interaction allows for a more clinically sound and quality centric approach to sourcing. Physicians can now be more confident in the approach sourcing has taken due to its ‘Patients First’ foundational approach.”

“Becoming a partner with Excelerate makes sense for us,” said Autumn McFann, chief financial officer for King’s Daughters. “We will be working with them for our cardiac service line. It will allow us to access excellent Cleveland Clinic pricing contracts and achieve significant supply savings on cardiac devices and supplies.”

“We are excited to have King’s Daughters Medical Center as an Excelerate member,” said Byron Jobe, president, strategic growth, marketing and innovation for VHA Inc. “The recent growth we are seeing in Excelerate demonstrates the value of this unique sourcing model for hospitals looking to reduce costs and align physicians while continuing to deliver quality outcomes for the patients they serve.”
