eHealth Insider (EHI) has launched the EHI Awards 2012 in association with BT with three new categories, 'Outstanding work in health imaging informatics', 'Innovation in Healthcare Integration' and the 'CCIO Campaign Award for Clinical IT Leadership'.
Organised by the UK's leading provider of healthcare IT news, the EHI Awards seek out and reward outstanding work within the sector. Organisations can enter one of 11 categories, as well as nominating an exceptional colleague for Healthcare IT Champion of the Year.
Jon Hoeksma, editor of eHealth Insider, said:  "With more categories and an expectation of high entry numbers, the EHI Awards in association with BT promise to be a highlight of 2012.

"The clinical leadership award is a welcome extension of the work we have done over the past year to raise awareness of the need for chief clinical information officers (CCIOs) to ensure that frontline users of healthcare systems have a real say in how their IT is run.
"Alongside all the categories that seek out excellence among healthcare IT professionals and suppliers, it's great that there will be formal recognition of outstanding informatics work done by doctors, nurses and other clinical staff."

Managing Director for NHS Informatics at the Department of Health, Katie Davis, said: "My experience as a judge last year showed me what huge levels of creativity and innovation exist in the healthcare sector.  All over the UK there are clinicians working with IT specialists to provide smart ways of doing things better for patients.  It is important that others can learn from their work and I look forward to helping bring attention to their successes."

Huw Owen, President of BT Health, said: "BT is delighted to continue our support for the EHI Awards, which continue to go from strength to strength. The new categories reflect the pivotal role that the healthcare IT industry is playing in helping the NHS rise to the challenges it faces on cost-efficiencies, productivity and business transformation.

"We are keen to shine a spotlight on the innovative work taking place here in the UK, which is often an exemplar for other countries around the world and to celebrate. The Awards are a great way to do this."

The deadline for entries is 1 June 2012 at 16.00 and the Awards will be presented on Thursday 4 October 2012 in the Grand Hall at the Grand Connaught Rooms, Covent Garden, London.
