45 crore population in this country require vision correction either through spectacles, contact lenses or refractive surgery to be able to see and function normally. Everybody above the age of 40years develops presbyopia or need for wearing near vision glasses.  Diabetes is growing at the rate of 195% in India, which can affect the eyes and lead to blindness.  One of five children going to school have visual problem in India informed Mr. Vivke, Marketing Director of Lawrence & Mayo.

Lawrence & Mayo, India’s leading manufacturing and dispensing optician is to organise Free Vision Screening Camps at all their 76stores across India till October 13, 2011.  This is organised with an aim to raise public awareness about the prevention and treatment of loss of vision.  The free eye check-up camps will be held by qualified optometrists.

The idea behind these eye screening camps is to educate people and suggest early treatment to curb vision related impairment. This initiative is not only to render eye care services to the underprivileged but also to increase awareness for need to avail eye health services among the general population as most causes for blindness are preventable. To find the nearest Lawrence & Mayo outlet near your home log on to www.lawrenceandmayo.co.in

With the aim to eradicate treatable blindness, Lawrence & Mayo has also organized an ‘Eye Donation Camp’ at all its outlets. This initiative will encourage citizens to pledge their eyes for donation post their death. Interested donors can avail the forms on Facebook, malls & theatres and from the Lawrence & Mayo website. ‘Eye Bank Co-ordination & Research Centre’ (EBCRC) and other eye banks will issue Eye donor cards through Lawrence & Mayo to each & every donor. As a goodwill gesture and token of appreciation Lawrence & Mayo will extend 5% discount for 3 years at all Lawrence & Mayo outlets across the country to donors who will pledge to donate their eyes.

Lawrence & Mayo has come up with ‘Old Spectacle Collection Drive’ which will start from October 10, 2011 to January 6, 2012. Interested citizens can donate their old or spare spectacle at any outlet of Lawrence & Mayo. These spectacles will be then mended and given to those in need.
