Medical imaging specialist Barco is proud to announce that Azienda Ospedaliera Spedali Civili di Brescia, in Northern Italy, has acquired over 80 Barco medical display systems as part of a regional PACS program. To date, this is the largest installation of color displays and Coronis Fusion 6MP DL for Barco in Italy. The installation covers multiple hospital departments and comprises diagnostic, mammographic and clinical review displays in addition to the company’s premium QA service.

Azienda Ospedaliera Spedali Civili di Brescia dates back to the 15th century and is one of the largest hospitals in Northern Italy. As part of a new multi-disciplinary regional PACS program, involving 5 hospital sites and producing over 400,000 exams per year, the full-color displays will be used in various departments of the hospital organization, including neuro-radiology, nuclear medicine, and four radiology departments.

Professor Raffaele Giubbini, M.D., Director of Nuclear Medicine and head of the PACS project, organized a dedicated demonstration day for key decision makers and clinical users. The team unanimously chose Barco’s Coronis Fusion 6MP DL product line for diagnostic viewing. “The Coronis Fusion 6MP DL offers us perfect image quality in both color and gray-scale, which we require for making a confident diagnosis. We strive for nothing less than diagnostic excellence so that we can provide our patients with the best possible care,” Professor Giubbini explains.

In addition to the displays, Barco will provide the IT department with the necessary support to set up and roll out a vital element of the Barco medical displays: MediCal QAWeb, Barco’s secure online premium-level QA service. Dr. Renato Taglietti, Director of the IT department, comments: “With MediCal QAWeb, we have all the tools for intervention-free calibration, quality assurance and display asset management. This QA service allows us to monitor and control the display systems, guaranteeing maximum diagnostic confidence and up-time of our display systems across the entire healthcare enterprise.”

In addition to the diagnostic displays, the hospital’s nuclear medicine department has acquired twenty clinical review displays for DICOM-compliant viewing and analysis of images from PET and SPECT scans. Equipped with professional medical-grade LCD-technology and a built-in DICOM Look-Up Table, Barco’s clinical review displays present these types of medical images with more accurate gray-scales, better contrast and a wider viewing angle than conventional computer monitors.
