Elekta announced that Bulovka Hospital in Prague will modernize its radiation therapy products and services with Elekta solutions. The cutting-edge technology includes two Versa HD™ linear accelerators, a brachytherapy afterloader, MOSAIQ® oncology information system (OIS) and Monaco® treatment planning system. These will replace existing hardware and software in the hospital’s oncology department.

According to the Czech Society for Oncology, more than 73,000 people are diagnosed annually with cancer and almost 27,000 deaths a year are tumor-related. With Versa HD, Bulovka Hospital will have the flexibility to treat a broad spectrum of tumors throughout the body, while enabling treatment of highly-complex cancers that require extreme targeting precision.

Miloslav Pála, MD, PhD, MBA, Head of the Radiation Oncology department at Bulovka Hospital, said:

Elekta was an excellent alternative for this upgrade as it provides competitive solutions that are fully integrated. Versa HD will allow us to treat traditionally challenging cases and with faster treatment times. Together with MOSAIQ and Monaco, we expect better workflows in our department.

François Pointurier, Elekta’s Senior Vice President for Western and Central Europe, says: “We are very happy that Bulovka Hospital has chosen Elekta for its oncology department upgrade. Investing in solutions that can improve efficiency in the clinic and the outcomes of their patients supports the mission of the National Oncological Programme of the Czech Republic: to lower the incidence of cancer, improve quality of life of oncology patients and to rationalize treatment costs of tumor diseases in the Czech Republic.”

The Versa HD linear accelerators both include Agility, Elekta’s high resolution beam shaping solution. Elekta’s Flexitron® brachytherapy afterloader together with Oncentra® Brachy treatment planning software are also included in the upgrade.
