Lightbeam Clients Improve Quality and Compliance with Annual Wellness Visits, Resulting in Completion Rates Double Industry Average

Lightbeam Clients Improve Quality and Compliance with Annual Wellness Visits, Resulting in Completion Rates Double Industry Average

Lightbeam Health Solutions, the leader in end-to-end population health management solutions and services, today announced the results of a study on annual wellness visits (AWVs). In 2021, Lightbeam clients averaged a nearly 50% AWV completion rate, more than double the industry average of 24%, empowering improvement in quality and compliance, thus improving patient quality of life. For clients enrolled in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP), this focus on AWV completion also resulted in $50.8 million in fee-for-service reimbursements.

An AWV is one of the best ways for providers to assess patient risk and administer preventive screenings for high-cost chronic conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, resulting in significant reductions in total healthcare costs. Lightbeamโ€™s population health solutions help reduce a significant amount of the administrative burden that clients experience when planning, scheduling, and performing AWVs. When properly utilized, Lightbeam clients see substantial increases in revenue from reimbursements from AWVs, helping them increase their bottom line.

In 2021, Lightbeam clients completed hundreds of thousands of annual wellness visits, with 92% achieving completion rates higher than the industry average. Lightbeam understands the impact that AWVs can have on both patient and provider; for that reason, Lightbeam supports its clients in implementing an AWV program. AWVs allow providers to capture hierarchical condition category (HCC) codes, close care gaps, set and reach benchmarks, and maintain patient-provider relationships. Evaluating patientsโ€™ physical and mental health while providing them with the necessary preventative services to avert the onset of diseases increases the patientโ€™s quality of life.

โ€œWe are delighted that our clients are seeing such amazing results in their AWV initiatives,โ€ said Jessica Scruton, BSN, RN, CCM-R, VP of Clinical Transformation at Lightbeam. โ€œNot only does this create positive health outcomes in the future for our clientsโ€™ patients, but it sets a best practices standard within the industry that we hope others will follow. AWVs are so important and at Lightbeam we are proud to be a part of helping our clients improve patient lives.โ€

For more information about AWV completion rates and to demo Lightbeamโ€™s industry-leading population health management platform, visit the Lightbeam Health Solutions booth, #1721 in the Orange County Convention Center, at HIMSS22 in Orlando, Florida, from March 14-18, 2022.

WHO And NAM Seek Digital Platforms For Health Data Quality

The World Health Organization (WHO) as well as the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) are urging social media firms and other numerous digital platforms to follow worldwide guidelines for recognising trustworthy health information providers on their channels. In December 2021, a worldwide cluster of public health experts gathered by BMJ as well as WHO reviewed the principles, which were first published in a NAM document in 2021. The report from the WHO in context to the meeting is now accessible through download.

According to Victor J. Dzau, President of the NAM, digital platforms provide a one-of-a-kind assistance to enable global access to supreme-quality health data, and that they hope these published principles will be a springboard for fruitful collaboration between public health, industry, and consumer advocates to preserve and promote people’s health around the world.

According to Andy Pattison, Team Lead, Digital Channels, in WHO’s Department of Digital Health and Innovation, the rapid dissemination of health misinformation by way of digital platforms has become a severe cause of concern to public health internationally. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, WHO has collaborated with technology companies to provide online access to high-quality health information in order to keep people safe and informed. He adds that every platform has a responsibility to defend their users’ safety and health. To preserve public health, they encourage all digital platforms to include the new worldwide principles for identifying reliable sources of health information in their guidelines, safety policies, and enforcement.

Sources must be science-based, impartial, transparent, and accountable to be deemed trustworthy according to the criteria. Platforms and consumers can utilise the NAM paper’s list of material qualities to analyse a source’s compliance with these principles.

The concepts and traits are universally applicable to worldwide circumstances, according to participants at the WHO summit in December 2021. However, they noted that factors such as language, culture, the influence of the source of information, and political opinions within the country can influence what is seen as credible. Participants suggested that content creators use the concepts and traits to boost their own credibility, and that media literacy training for the broader audience be promoted as a complementary tactic. The conference report includes these and other practical recommendations.

During a January 2022 meeting of WHO’s “Tech Task Force,” a standing group of members from over 40 major technology companies, including Amazon, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, TikTok, and YouTube, the NAM and WHO encouraged the tech companies to follow the principles. The WHO will continue to collaborate with NAM and other organisations to support digital platforms that provide high-quality health information.

Life-Saving Drug Administered To First Sickle Cell Patients

Life-Saving Drug Administered To First Sickle Cell Patients

One of the very first patients on the NHS to receive a pioneering sickle cell medication says she was “overjoyed” to receive the “paradigm-shifting” new drug. Loury Mooruth, who is 62, of Walsall, West Midlands, happens to be one of the first patients to receive crizanlizumab which was administered at Birmingham NHS Trust, the first novel medication for sickle cell disease in more than two decades. Crizanlizumab, a novel medicine, will reduce chronic pain, A&E visits, and significantly enhance patients’ quality of life.

As many as 5,000 individuals could be treated over the next three years thanks to an NHS drug agreement, significantly sooner than would have been possible otherwise. Sickle cell has been a part of her entire life, Loury stated after her first treatment. People look at her and believe she is alright, but they have no idea how much agony and anguish she goes through, not to mention the numerous trips to A&E.

As per her, when she hasย a sickle cell crisis, it feels like someone is ripping a knife through herย joints, especially herย hips and legs. Loury adds that every time sheย considered taking this new medicine, tears welled up in her eyes and that she is ecstatic and overjoyed nowย since this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for her as well as herย family. She strongly feels that other folks who are eligible for this medicine should come forward and get it.

Crizanlizumab, which is administered via a transfusion drip, prevents a sickle cell crisis by attaching to a protein found in blood cells. Patients with sickle cell disease have monthly episodes that make it difficult to continue working or doing other daily activities. The medicine is predicted to cut the number of visits to A&E by two-fifths for sickle cell patients.

The Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust is one of ten new specialist sickle cell disease treatment centres being established across the UK. Patients from all over the country will be able to receive the new treatment through their consultant at one of these clinics. It is worth noting that people with African or African-Caribbean ancestry are significantly more likely to have the inherited disorder.

It is indeed amazing that the first NHS patients have been offered this ground-breaking and historic new medication for sickle cell disease, the first in almost two decades, says Dr Bola Owolabi, NHS Director of Health Inequalities, who also happens to be aย GP in the Midlands. This breakthrough treatment, according to him,ย will improve patients’ quality of life, cut trips to the emergency room in half, and ultimately save lives. They have been able to give the newest and most recommendable treatments to patients at such a convenient price for taxpayers thanks to the NHS’s commitment to this treatment. Crizanlizumab is the latest in a long line of NHS medication deals that have seen patients benefit from cutting-edge therapies such as a life-changing cystic fibrosis treatment for youngsters and a ground-breaking new drug that can greatly lower the likelihood of cancer returning.

They are happy to see the first sickle cell patients now have access to this life-changing breakthrough medication, remarkedย Kye Gbangbola, MBA, chair of the Sickle Cell Society. Others,ย as per him,ย who are eligible are encouraged to do the same.

Sickle cell crises are excruciatingly painful and cause major disruptions in daily life. They believe that this innovative treatment will give many sickle cell patients a new lease on life. Gbangbola adds that sickle cell disease is a disease that is underserved and underappreciated, so it’s wonderful to see new medicines being developed after more than two decades. They hope that this is only the beginning of a slew of innovative medicines that will enhance the lives of sickle cell patients.

6 Advanced Types Of Plastic Surgeries That Will Help You Have The Perfect Body

6 Advanced Types Of Plastic Surgeries That Will Help You Have The Perfect Body

Plastic surgery is no longer a taboo topic. In fact, it has become quite popular in recent years. This is likely due to the number of celebrities who have openly admitted to having plastic surgery procedures done. While some people may still view plastic surgery as being taboo, the truth is that it can be a life-saving procedure for some people. Here are six advanced types of plastic surgery that will help you have the perfect body.

Facelift

One of the most popular types of plastic surgery is a facelift. This helps to reduce the signs of aging on the face by removing excess skin that hangs down from the chin, repairing or adding support to sagging areas with implants or fat grafting, tightening muscles in the neck area, and removing deep creases on both sides of the face. Many people usually go for a mini facelift, full facelift, or neck lift. If you’re interested in this type of procedure, search for plastic surgeons in the LA area, NY area, or Miami area. Facelift surgeons can let you know if you are a good candidate for this type of plastic surgery.

Liposuction

Another popular procedure that helps people to have the perfect body is liposuction. This has become an extremely common type of cosmetic surgery, with over 300,000 procedures performed each year. During this procedure, small incisions are made in the skin and a thin tube is inserted. The fat cells within the fatty tissue are then broken down, usually with ultrasound energy or another type of instrument. These small areas of fat are progressively removed through the incisions in the skin. Liposuction can be used to remove excess fat from all over your body, including your abdomen, hips, thighs, neck, arms, chin, and love handles.

Nose Reshaping

In some cases, a nose job may be performed to correct cosmetic problems resulting from birth defects or trauma. The surgeon will remove the imperfection by rebuilding your bone and cartilage to appear more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing. This type of surgery can also be used to reduce the size of a bump or hump that is on your nose or give you a more defined and narrow appearance. This type of surgery is extremely beneficial for people who have been through a traumatic experience, a car accident for example, or those who have a birth defect and want it fixed.

Lid Surgery

Getting eyelid surgery is another popular kind of cosmetic procedure. The surgeon will create an incision along the natural crease line in order to remove excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids. This helps to reduce bags under your eyes, which can make you look tired and sleepy. Droopy eyelids will also be lifted into their proper position with this type of procedure. Having this surgery done will make you look more alert and refreshed.

Breast Augmentation

Many women are also opting for breast augmentation to help enhance their appearance. This entails inserting an implant, which is usually made out of saline or silicone, into the breast area in order to give it a fuller appearance. While this has long been considered a popular cosmetic procedure, there has been a decrease in the number of women going under the knife to get this type of surgery done. However, a lot of women with naturally large breasts tend to choose breast reduction surgery in order to alleviate back and neck pain and to achieve a more proportional appearance.

Dermabrasion

Finally, dermabrasion is another popular type of cosmetic surgery that can help you have the perfect body. During this procedure, an instrument will be used to remove the outermost layers of skin in order to smooth out scars or other types of blemishes. This procedure is great for people who have stretch marks, acne scars, minor facial wrinkles, and various other types of cosmetic defects that they want removed. However, because this type of surgery may cause the skin to become extremely sensitive, many doctors recommend waiting several months before having this type of surgery performed.

If you’re looking for a way to have the perfect body, there are many advanced types of plastic surgeries that can help. From facelifts and liposuction to nose reshaping, eyelid surgery, breast augmentation, and dermabrasion-there is an option out there for everyone! However, it’s important to mention that you should always consult with a doctor before choosing to have any of these procedures done. This will help you receive the best results and overall positive outcomes from the surgery. So if you’re looking to have the perfect body, one of these advanced types of plastic surgeries might be right for you!

NHS Launches My Planned Care Platform To Address Waitlists

Uncountable queues of patients who have been waiting for their turn for the NHS will now be able to access care and also check their waiting time at their finger tips, all because of the new online health platform that has been launched on February 24.

Called My Planned Care, the platform has been built in conjunction with the patient groups and happens to be one of the latest measures taken by the NHS to tackle the backlog caused by COVID-19. What this platform will end up doing is allowing patients as well as their carers to have a hands-on experience with all the information ahead of their appointment, which will include any operation or treatment by way of touching a button. In the first phase itself, almost 5.5 million patients out of a total of 6 million patients appearing on the wait list will have access to the site and will know the average waiting time at their local hospital for any specialist area they wish to receive treatment for.

From hereon, 137 NHS trusts that are spread across England have put out the data that will be on the site, which is hosted by nhs.uk. This comes a couple of weeks after an elective recovery plan by the NHS was rolled out in order to ensure that the services are fit for the future. The platform in the coming months will see an expansion too, and it will include personalised information as well as support for patients who have been on the waitlist, helping them stay put and fit till the time their turn comes. It will also let them understand how best to manage their symptoms.

As far as future expansion is concerned, stopping smoking and diet and exercise advice should be included so that the patients can get ready for their operation. All this should lead to a quick and seamless recovery. Not only that, but targeted support packages will be implemented to assist patients who have been waiting the longest for their procedures or who are in greater need.

Notably, the general practitioners as well as primary care teams will also be provided information, which in turn will help them have more informed conversations with their respective patients.ย The elective recovery plan, which was put in place a few weeks back, had already set a blueprint for the measures that would be undertaken to address the backlog plight and, in a way, tackle the long waits with expanded test capacity and enhanced checks and treatments.

According to Stephen Powis, who happens to be NHS Englandโ€™s national medical director, the treatment of more than 60,000 patients suffering due to COVID-19 over the past two years has impacted routine care, and the staff are doing whatever is in their capacity to decrease the inevitably increased backlog. He adds that it can be extremely frustrating for patients, and this online arrangement will help them and their families get crucial information on how much longer they will have to wait, therefore making them feel more informed.

Sajid Javid, secretary of health and social care, believes that this one-of-a-kind platform will continue to provide patients with greater certainty about their own care across all boundaries. He further confirms that My Planned Care will help put patients in control with faster diagnosis closer to home.

As part of a plan, he confirms, to put a brake on the COVID backlog, they look to deliver more than 9 million treatments that involve scans as well as operations in the next couple of years. There are more than 100 diagnostic community centres being rolled out in collaboration with the NHS that aim to ensure that by March 2025, nobody waits more than a year for surgery.

How Digital Addiction Affects Us – Learn From Experts

How Digital Addiction Affects Us - Learn From Experts

Introduction

Do you use smartphones?

Do you like to idly spend time unhindered by the useless orders given by your dad and mom?

I know you can not resist giving it a first thought, arenโ€™t you?

If you are affirmative of this, thoughโ€ฆI fear you are addicted to the Internet!!

Regardless of age group, millions of people are seen getting repulsed from worldly affairs and find their abode in Facebook and Instagram’s virtual world and the surreal world of Video Games.

According to an exciting figure, around 77% of American people go online every day.

The study takes a dip into the reasons that propel the young generation to go mad after the Digital world. In addition, the factors that are held accountable for the perceived degradation of people will be discussed in the study.

Although rehabs take care of people undergoing drug and alcohol addiction, not many rehabs treat patients with digital addiction problems. For example, Infinite Recovery provides drug and alcohol addiction treatment in Houston.

Digital Addiction: An overview

Digital Addiction emanates from impulsive and uncontrollable obsession and is perceived among people across ages. Digital Addiction acts to carry away people from the real world to the virtual world.

According to experts on human psychology, digital Addiction is an emerging domain of cyberpsychology.

Digital Addiction explores the problem faced by people exposed to the excessive use of digital platforms, mainly social media platforms and video games. People being preoccupied go mad after digital gadgets and mobile devices ignoring all practical scenarios of socio-economic constraints.

Digital (Internet) Addiction And Its Typology

Digital Addiction could be broadly classified into five types. They include Net Compulsions, Cybersex Addiction, Cyber Relational Addiction, Compulsive Information Seeking, and Computer Games.ย ย

Net Compulsions

Under this, people resort to the habit of involving themselves in stock Trading, Gambling, online auctions, online buying, and selling. All above could negatively affect the financial situation of the individual.

Cybersex Addiction

Individuals lose their sense of decency and find themselves involved in pornography, adult websites, sexual chat rooms.

Cyber Relational Addiction

Here people involve themselves in establishing relationships in the virtual platform that has no social registration and is hence considered unethical.

Consequently, it harbors unnecessary expectations among people. People, therefore people turn socially alienated. Here the person neglects its closed ones.

Compulsive Information Seeking

Information seeking through different sources goes on to reach a point of obsession wherefrom a return turns out to be complicated. Constantly seeking information turns an individual passive and unproductive.

Computer Games

Under this, the age group comprising Gen Z and Millennials get affected by video games that transport themes in the imaginary fairy tale land.

Why Technology And Addiction Work In Collusion?

It is needless to say that technology orchestrated terrible consequences in collusion with inquisitive human nature. Games like Minesweeper, Solitaire, and Tetris continuously incite the combativeness of the people. They challenge them to use their energy insensibly. Consequently, they are drawn by the challenge and meet dire consequences.

Above all, long-term Addiction consequently drags people into the land of uncertainty, where they find themselves jeopardizing their academics and professional careers.

This acts to invite far-reaching consequences so far as the individual is considered. It could also be mentioned that internet users cannot come out from the negative influences without being repeatedly made aware of the negativities.

Technology has immense potential, and people need to extract its benefits rather than swaying its emotion with the flow. It makes an entire generation lead astray ultimately.

Factors That Negatively Influence Digital Addiction Among Masses

Several factors negatively impact an individual. Factors like Interpersonal relationships, loneliness, excessive expectations from life, and self-control lower self Esteem are prominent.

Interpersonal Relation

Supposing an individual is not having compatibility with their partner. In that case, he can turn back from the ordinary course of life and move into depression.

Loneliness

Excessive Addiction to video games could make oneself dissociated from worldly affairs. So, you better hurry up and be busy with your mates instead of playing video games sitting alone in your room.

Excessive expectations

If an individual expects too much from life and the expectations get thwarted, it might move entirely into the digital world. This sojourn offers temporary relief but creates troubles in the long run.

Apart from the factors mentioned above, there are other factors like Academic Stagnation and Compulsive actions. This acts to invite a negative influence on an individual.

Facts And Figures On Digital Addiction

To vindicate the negative influence of Internet influence, let’s supply some facts and figures on this.

  • According to a study conducted in the USA, it is found out that around 77% of Americans use the Internet to serve their personal as well as professional needs.
  • Around 26% of the people are using online platforms constantly.
  • The figures on Child involvement in Digital technology emits grave concerns.
  • It is found out that the children aged between 8 and 10 spend an average of 8 hours a day in electronic media. Children aged between 10-18 spend around 11 hours on the Internet.

The positive side to the study is that around 11% of the people don’t use the Internet.

The vast data produced negative repercussions in different diseases by which people get afflicted. For example, according to a study –

  • 14% of the Digitally Addicted people grapple with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
  • 15% for Social Anxiety Disorder.
  • 14% for Borderline Personality Disorder.
  • 57% for Depressive Disorder.

So, nay-sayers on digitization could establish their claims vehemently.

But, it can never be refuted that the digital world’s influence on the progress of society is immense.

The digital world has enabled people to explore different fields of study and improve upon knowledge, and the Internet has constantly become a tool to serve the needs of curious human minds.

Conclusion

Therefore it could be concluded that Digital addiction has only hurled us into the pit of different kinds of disorders.

The scenario is detrimental to health and invites far-reaching consequences and repercussions so far as the economy of the society of a nation is concerned.

Hence it could be understood that excessive tendency towards digital media, as well as games, work to dismantle the psychological aspects of the youth.

Notwithstanding the harm caused by excessive use of the Internet, it could not be denied that digital prowess has armed people and motivated them to explore new areas of knowledge and learning incessantly.

New Guidelines By WHO And ILO For Better Occupational Health

WHO as well as the International Labour Organisation (ILO) have come up with a new guide to develop as well as implement robust programmes on occupational health as well as safety for health workers as the pandemic continues to put enormous pressure on them.

According to Maria Neira, Dept. of Environment, Climate Change and Health Director, even before the pandemic struck a blow in 2020, the health sector was undoubtedly regarded as the most hazardous sector of all when it came to working in it. Notably, only a very few facilities brim with programmes that can effectively manage health as well as safety at work. Neira adds that the facilities that donโ€™t offer programmes for worker upliftment can be nothing short of hubs where infections, injuries, disorders related to musculoskeletal issues, and overall poor work environments dwell.

If this wasnโ€™t enough, COVID-19 has proven to have had an unparalleled amount of toll when it comes to the health of the workers. It has also brought to light the neglect they have been through as far as safety and well-being at work goes. It is estimated that more than one in every three healthcare facilities lacks hygiene stations at the point where treatment is taking place. Also, less than one in every six countries has a national policy in place that concerns health and safe working conditions in the health industry.

The pandemic has indeed exposed the consistent dearth of safeguards for health workers. As per James Campbell, who happens to be the Director of the WHO Health Workforce Department, if one wants to have a look at a figure, in the first 18 months of COVID-19, a total of 115,000 health workers passed away due to the virus. There was already a pre-existing shortage of health workers, and sickness, exhaustion, and absence added to the woes of the health system, which could not respond to demand for care that was ever increasing. The guide, according to him, provides recommendations on how to make this experience count and better mould the system to protect the workers who give it all in the front line.

Both the global bodies of high repute have recommended developing and implementing programmes that are sustainable when it comes to managing occupational health as well as the safety of workers at predominantly three levels: national, sub-national, and health facility. Such programmes, as per them, must cover occupational hazards that range from physical and chemical to psycho-social, infectious and ergonomic.

The guidelines also set forth the roles that the government, workers, employers, and occupational health services must play when it comes to promoting and protecting the well-being of health workers. There is a need for continuous and consistent funding, training, monitoring, and collaboration, which is what the guide focuses on, since these elements sustain the progress of programme implementation.

Alette van Leur, Director at ILOโ€™s Sectoral Policies Department, opines that there has to be an effective mechanism that makes sure the collaboration between managers, employers, and health workers is consistent with the prime focus of safeguarding health and safety at the workplace. Van Leur adds that health personnel, like any other workers, are entitled to their right to work in decent working environments and must have social protection against sickness, occupational diseases, as well as injuries.

It should be noted that countries that have successfully implemented such programmes have seen a decrease in work-related injuries, diseases, and sick leave. There has also been an improvement in the work environment, leading to enhanced productivity and worker retention. According to Vera Pawuete-Perdigao, Director of ILO Governance, such programmes are an intrinsic component for effective management of occupational safety and health, and thus provide a significant landscape for coordinated action by stakeholders through social dialogues that aim at a common goal of upgrading decent work in the health sector.Because of their implementation, there is also an increase in the resilience that is seen in these healthcare setups. It goes without saying that both, WHO and ILO will continue with their endeavour to provide guidance to countries to develop and execute occupational health programmes for the frontline workers.
