Rush Health, a Chicago-based clinically integrated health network has selected InterSystems to implement a private health information exchange (HIE). The implementation of InterSystems HealthShare will provide their hospital, physician and affiliate members a complete view of their patients’ records across the care continuum from within their EHR – connecting primary, specialty, sub-acute and hospital-based providers, as well as other HIEs regardless of EHR system.

After evaluating several vendors, Rush Health determined HealthShare offers the best solution as a centralized health information hub, enabling all stakeholders to use their own EHR systems to exchange information and get the most complete medical picture for each patient.

Rush Health includes four hospitals, more than 1,100 physician members and 350 non-physician network clinicians. Rush Health’s providers will gain complete visibility into all of their patients’ medications, tests and procedures, reducing unnecessary prescriptions and treatments and delivering better, more attentive care.

“Implementation of our HIE is critical to Rush Health’s transition to value-based care. It will serve as the hub for all care coordination activities, triggered by real-time monitoring of quality, resource use and cost,” says Brent Estes, CEO of Rush Health in a statement. “It will fill in any gaps in our members’ EHRs.”

In selecting HealthShare, Rush Health’s clinical leaders cited its proven ability to access all data, not just HL7 information, with an integrated analytics toolset that enables actionable insights at the point of care. HealthShare also has alert and notification system capabilities for clinical events across Rush’s integrated network, as well as an integrated enterprise master patient index (eMPI) to ensure consistent identification of patients across external and internal medical record systems.

InterSystems develops connected health solutions that serve as the foundation for population health management initiatives. InterSystems customers include leading hospitals, health systems, health information networks, health plans, medical device manufacturers, labs, and other organizations serving hundreds of millions of patients worldwide. InterSystems technology provides rapid and reliable healthcare integration with out-of-the box support for global healthcare information protocols and messaging formats.
