Digital Therapeutics Group Backs Prescription Coverage Bills

The Medicaid and CHIP Access to Prescription Digital Therapeutics Act aims to increase access to care options that can improve patients’ health outcomes and quality of life. This week, the Digital Therapeutics Alliance urged lawmakers to support its initiatives to increase DTx access.

Reimbursement for digital apps and platforms that can improve health outcomes has been constrained for persons with chronic and mental health issues who are insured by Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. The requirement for a regulatory framework might be met by the bipartisan measure S.5238, which was presented by Senators Shelly Moore Capito, R-W.Va., and Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., and would mandate the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to create national coverage criteria.

The newly approved Axonics R20โ„ข neurostimulator is labeled for a functional life in the body of at least 20 years and reduces how frequently a patient needs to recharge their implanted device to once every 6 to 10 months for only one hour. This compares to the third-generationโ€™s recharging interval of once a month for one hour. The Axonics R20 neurostimulator utilizes the same small 5cc form factor as the third-generation device and is paired with the same tined lead and intuitive, easy to use patient remote control.

Hill International awarded US$400m Jordanian university hospital in Ammam

Summit BHC acquires West Virginias Highland Hospital

Hill International, the American construction consulting firm with operations across the globe, has said that it has been awarded a contract to provide construction management services to the Saudi Jordanian Fund for Medical Educational Investment Company (SJFMEI), a subsidiary of theย Saudi Jordanian Investment Fundย (SJIF), for a new US$400 million healthcare project in Amman, Jordan.

In a statement, Hill said that the project is a university hospital that will deliver 330 beds, 72 outpatient clinics, a childrenโ€™s hospital and a medical school with a capacity for up to 600 students, once complete. The school has a projected enrolment of 100 students annually.

The project will also include five medical centres of excellence, each focused on providing care for the most common and fastest-growing non-communicable diseases in Jordan and the region. These include cardiology, oncology, neurology, gastroenterology, and orthopaedics, while also supporting advanced research through four centres in the fields of genomics and precision medicine, stem cells and regenerative medicine, health systems and public health, and bioinformatics.

Hill Regional President โ€“ Middle Eastย Abdo Kardousย said of the award: โ€œThis new healthcare project will raise the level of care for the entire Jordanian population and set a new standard in patient well-being. We are excited to support such a transformative healthcare infrastructure program and look forward to realising the SJFMEIโ€™s vision as planned.โ€

Ambitious Project

The consultancy added that work on the project will be implemented in partnership with two of the most prestigious institutions in the world in the fields of healthcare and medical education.

Olympus to Join Government Project to Verify Dissemination of Endoscopic AI Diagnosis in Vietnam

PENTAX Medical and Vedkang Establish Endoscopic Therapeutics Joint Venture

Olympus Corporation (Olympus), a global medtech company committed to making peopleโ€™s lives healthier, safer and more fulfilling, announced their part in a project in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan (MIC), entitled, โ€œSurvey Study for International Expansion of Endoscopes Utilizing High-definition Imaging Technology AI Diagnosis Support System in Vietnam.โ€

This is the third year, after similar projects in Thailand in fiscal year 2021 and India in fiscal year 2020, that Olympus has acted as a corporate partner to investigate the effectiveness and potential dissemination of an AI diagnostic support system. As part of these projects, Olympus has researched clinical applications in collaboration with major local medical institutions. Past clinical use by doctors in India and Thailand, along with consultation with Japanese physicians, showed the effectiveness and potential for future use of EndoBRAIN-EYE and other endoscope diagnostic imaging support software.

From November 2022 to March 2023, Olympus, in collaboration with CYBERNET SYSTEMS CO., LTD., will conduct research on the effectiveness and future use of the AI diagnostic support system EndoBRAIN-EYE at Cho Ray Hospital and 108 Hospital in Vietnam. In addition, specialist lecturers and physicians from Japanโ€™s Showa University Northern Yokohama Hospital and Shizuoka Cancer Center will provide expert guidance to doctors at major Vietnamese hospitals. They will train doctors in techniques for detecting diseases and differential diagnosis with colonoscopes using EndoBRAIN-EYE, and they will also instruct on how to train the next generation of endoscopists.

At the kick-off meeting on November 28, Ho Dang Quy Dung M.D. from Cho Ray Hospital said, โ€œAI is a new and powerful technology making endoscpic procedure more efficient and high quality. I do think that AI will be the big breakthrough of the filed of GI endoscopy in the upcoming years. I hope we have the opportunity to work with Japanese experts in the field of AI in endoscopy.โ€ Professor Shinโ€™ei Kudo from Showa University Northern Yokohama Hospital also commented, โ€œI hope this project will contribute to not only dissemination of the AI technology but also increased partnership between Vietnam and Japan, and look forward to amazing results from this exciting collaboration.โ€

Responding to the Food and Drug Administration’s recent approval of over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids, HearUSA announced that it will offer Sony’s new over-the-counter hearing aids. The first two models – the Sony CRE-C10 and Sony CRE-E10 – will be available for clients to purchase early next year in all HearUSA centers and online. 

According to HearUSA President James Gilchrist, OTC hearing aids have the potential to increase the number of people who address their hearing loss by improving the overall awareness of the importance of hearing health; providing affordable access to hearing solutions for those with mild to moderate hearing loss; and empowering Americans to start their hearing health journey sooner.

Service packages will be available for OTC candidates that want the support of a hearing care professional on their hearing health journey.

Sony’s new OTC hearing aids will be available for purchase in early 2023 at HearUSA hearing centers nationally and online at the HearUSA website, where consumers will also be guided through a hearing screening and questionnaire to determine if OTC hearing aids are right for them.
