Spacelabs Healthcare, an innovator in patient monitoring and connectivity solutions, has launched a new enhanced wireless feature set for the Ultraview SL2200, SL2400 and SL2600 portable patient monitors.

As part of the company’s resounding commitment to open connectivity standards, Spacelabs maintains wireless patient monitoring operability using a hospital’s existing wireless infrastructure while coexisting with other wireless devices. This enhanced wireless feature set enables wireless deployments in the IEEE 802.11a/b/g bands using WPA (TKIP) or IEEE 802.11i-compliant WPA2 (AES) security. Spacelabs is initially launching the Enhanced Wireless feature set within the U.S. and Canada; worldwide distribution is planned for early 2010.

Deepak Chopra, Spacelabs Chief Executive Officer, Spacelabs is pleased to offer a more flexible, real-time wireless monitoring solution with enhanced security to ensure fast, uninterrupted patient surveillance and data collection throughout the continuum of care. Wireless network capability enables clinicians to access and document real-time patient information even during transport, helping them make critical decisions quickly and seamlessly.

The Enhanced Wireless feature set allows hospitals concerned with oversaturation by 802.11b/g wireless devices to deploy Ultraview SL wireless monitors on 802.11a which operates in the 5.4 GHz band. This band is less congested and more immune to interference from 2.4 GHz devices, such as those operating on 802.11b/g, legacy 802.11 frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS), Bluetooth and microwave ovens.
