InterSystems IRIS for Health to scale Consultmed’s capacity via integrations with electronic medical record and other clinical systems, including InterSystems TrakCare

Sydney, Australia – April 30, 2024 InterSystems, a creative data technology provider dedicated to helping customers solve the most critical scalability, interoperability and speed problems, today announced a collaboration with Consultmed, an Australian provider of a referral management and automated workflow platform connecting primary care providers, medical specialists and hospitals. As part of the collaboration, Consultmed will replatform its software on InterSystems IRIS for Health™, accelerating and reducing costs of new integrations with electronic medical record (EMR) and other clinical systems, including InterSystems TrakCare®, through a comprehensive range of pre-built interfaces and support for healthcare data standards.

Consultmed’s platform, hosted on Microsoft Azure, supports integrated referral management, virtual triage, Advice & Guidance™, secure messaging, digital patient forms, requests for admission, and AI digitisation of paper referrals. Benefits include faster turnaround for appointments, fewer missed appointments, and reduced administration costs. At the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, Consultmed’s roll-out has enabled a 25-35% average reduction in unnecessary specialist outpatient visits due to Advice & Guidance™, an estimated 55% reduction in missed outpatient appointments, and an 85% improvement in referral response time and appointment scheduling.

Interoperability key to company’s success

Interoperability to support clinical adoption and ease of use is key to Consultmed’s success. Its existing integrations and interfaces, developed with REST APIs and HL7 FHIR healthcare data standards, support practice management systems and secure message delivery services used by general practitioners (GPs), non-GP specialists and patients/carers.

Best platform for integrations at scale

“As the company has matured, we looked for the best platform to do integrations at scale,” said Associate Professor Vikram Palit, Founder and CEO of Consultmed and a practising paediatrician. “InterSystems IRIS for Health allows us to expand our growth opportunities with a core technology platform that can support the major EMRs such as TrakCare, making us more competitive in the market for clinical workflow solutions. We see further opportunities in bringing together fragmented healthcare systems as Consultmed maps the healthcare journey from primary to secondary care. By integrating Advice & Guidance™, Consultmed provides healthcare organisations with immediate insights into resource allocation and patient outcomes. This is achieved by understanding the reasons behind patient referrals, identifying priority cases that require specialist appointments and recognising those patients that can be more effectively managed in the community with remote expert advice. InterSystems and IRIS for Health play a crucial role in supporting our growth in these areas.”

“InterSystems helps innovative companies like Consultmed – which are introducing data-driven, connected care solutions to improve outcomes and efficiency – to scale their capacity to integrate with other systems,” said Luciano Brustia, Regional Managing Director, Asia Pacific for InterSystems. “We look forward to helping expand Consultmed’s capabilities with IRIS for Health, introducing the company to our global customer base, and supporting its growth in Australia and around the world.”
