Nonin Medical, Inc., introduced its Model 7600 Regional Oximetry System at the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESA) conference in Milan, Italy. The Model 7600 integrates Nonin's EQUANOX™ near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) regional oximetry technology to measure the balance of oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin (HbO2 and Hb) in the cerebral cortex.

The Model 7600's innovative sensor design effectively removes surface tissue effects that can influence measurement accuracy — while three-wavelength technology reduces the sensitivity to patient physiological differences. These advancements improve accuracy, repeatability and efficiency by eliminating possible measurement variations resulting from repositioning or replacing the sensor.

David MacLeod, F.R.C.A., Department of Anesthesiology, Duke University Medical Center said, The Nonin regional oximeter with EQUANOX technology and cerebral sensor provides an accurate measure of trends in cerebral oxygen saturation.

With over 20 years of signal processing and NIRS sensor design expertise, Nonin's innovative technologies enable clinicians to accurately monitor a patient's true condition in the most challenging environments. The progression into regional oximetry is a natural step for Nonin and expands the reach of their proven monitoring solutions in an effort to provide clinicians with a more effective tool for identifying and preventing cerebral oxygen desaturation complications before they occur.
